They don't let me read that site.

I don't understand why people insist on posting articles behind paywalls. Whenever I bring this up someone just says "they deserve the money!!!!!"

they will need the cap space to resign Jimmy G when he becomes a free agent

2023? There will probably be a full 16 games of tape on him by then.

$25/ year for a 3 year subscription is more than well worth it.

Anyone here who is active or retired military gets a free subscription.

Belichick tanking would be a tremendous thread ... is that even possible ...
I doubt it ...Even if he wanted to tank I think he would suck at it.
I'm pretty confident in saying Bill would not ever tank a season. I don't think he comprehends the concept.

Lose a bunch of games to get a high round pick that he would trade out of anyways. While he has the QB and the formula and everything he usually needs to go to the super bowl. Yea, doesn't quite sound like BB.

Ha.

I just don't think its in his DNA. I vaguely remember a beat-writer asking him about the Dolts/Suck for Luck campaign and he went off on how baffled he was with how Polian left the QB position exposed and that would never be something he would do and in closing said something like the best way to rebuild a team is to win games.

Only 31 players under contract. That’s a game changer. So is the fact that Brady’s not under contract and will almost certainly take up 1/4 of that number.

Then you’ll only have 32 players under contract with about 60m to spend and a ton of holes.
It depresses me to say this, but the bolded may no longer be a given.

I don't care if he's under contract now for 2020 or not its still a given that if TB12 is playing football in 2020 it will be here. And there has been little reason to believe he won't be playing.

I don’t think Bill is going to be sentimental if he sees a late-2014, 2015 Forehead type of decline in 2019.

It's a really good long article ... he goes over all the scenarios with charts and tables.
Just pondering the possibilities of is this the last year and 2020 a reset year or is it not.
A fun read for those who wonder what next year could be ... or not.
If we win the Super Bowl - let's face it that could be it for Brady & maybe Edelman.
Can we stop the Brady will quit if we win the SB talk? He has proven multiple times that quitting when he is still at that level isn’t in his dna.

Of course not. But that was always a given. What has occurred recently to make you think that 2020 is no longer a given? Do you have reason to expect a forehead like decline?

It's a valid discussion for people to express their opinion ... so no we will continue to discuss it.

Interesting thought for sure.

First, I'm interested in seeing what happens with the TB contract. Does he get extended before the season? If yes, what numbers? Also what would be the dead money in case Brady falls off in a year or retires?

If the Patriots win back to back SBs in 2019, I don't think it's unlikely that basically every of the accomplished members retires. Belichick, Brady, Dante, Edelman, McCourty, Chung.

Yes, we have heard that Brady wants to play until he is 45 and Belichick might coach a few more years but things change with another title imo.

That would be the ultimate reset.

It would probably be even more. There are some players who would free up a good amount and are easy to cut.

Good we can then add threads on Santa Claus, Sasquatch and the Easter bunny.

1/4 of what #? The whole cap $ of the projected available space ?

Brady likes winning so I don’t think he would eat 1/4 of the whole cap. If he does, we won’t be winning many games. Kinda like Green Bay. Pay 100 mill to a guy who can’t even manage to stay on the field all year. I’d guess brady takes something like 15-20 mill per year on an extension. I could be wrong but he does not strike me as a guy who’s even slightly worried about his pay grade

I’m not expecting it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens. His training regimen is unprecedented but he is north of 40. It could realistically happen any year at this point.

Brady will be 42 and he currently has the second worst pass catching group of his entire career. Obviously that can change by September but if the plans to get him reinforcements go wrong then you’d be foolish to not expect him to struggle like he did at times last year.
