Excellent sign but I don't think OTAs offer much more of a risk compared to everyday life and especially nothing like the risk of a game.

This tells us playing is still on the table but doesn't tell us that much more than we knew when he shut it down again last December.

If he's going to be in OTAs, he's good to go to start the season, unless the blood clots come up again.
He wouldn't be out there at all if there were any risk whatsoever.

Based on the report that I read, Vrable only stated that he'd be participating in the Voluntary Off Season Conditioning Program. I saw nothing that he said that would indicate that Barmore is "Ready to go". His participation is encouraging, but a far cry from he's 100% and his condition is a thing of the past/no longer a concern. Ready to go for the off season voluntary conditioning program: Yes. But that's all that was confirmed.

There is zero shot, zero, he'd even show up if there were even the slimmest chance it would be an issue.

I'd think you could attend OTAs on blood thinners. How big a risk is uncontrollable bleeding during OTAs? I wouldn't think much more than a normal day.

He should not have played at all last season, and was not in football shape. He could be a monster if he comes into OTAs and is in shape by August.

I'm going to need someone a lot smarter than me to explain how you can return too soon for blood clots? From my understanding he was on blood thinners end of debate you can't play. Doctors switched him to something that wasn't a blood thinner now you can play.

Unless there is some smoking gun correlation between playing and having blood clots that I'm unaware of then the idea he was rushed is baseless.

Not to mention we don't even know if he had other blood clots or just was told to go back to thinners for another reason.

As far as I know while blood clots is obviously a serious condition I don't believe it's what prevents him from playing. It's my understanding the blood thinners are the reason. Problem is there aren't a lot of effective treatments other than thinners.

I hear ya SBB.. he mentioned it on NBC Boston.. he reports things then doesn't like to elaborate so it was one of those moments.

What I remember about his ordeal was it was discovered by the Patriots medical staff last camp He had leg cramping that led to him having found to have the issue.

The way last season went in totality.. .it was just an awful thing to happen to such a great players who was dominant. I'm with you.. I'm no where near a PHD either.. I just like to keep up with the reports around the team.

You’re right, you cannot play contact sports on blood thinners. Any DVT blood clot would require MINIMUM 3 months of blood thinners to prevent them from becoming a life threatening pulmonary embolism. And that would only be adequate if they find no underlying clotting disorder that puts you at further risk. There are long term alternatives to blood thinners (such as filters in your big veins) but in many cases they are not adequate. If he had a recurrence of clot late in the season, he’ll need longer treatment regardless of underlying cause. I assume the league allows OTA participation while on anticoagulation as long as there is no contact activity, but even then, there is increased risk of life threatening bleeding and I assume they have legal protection written in for him to assume that risk. If he can come off thinners by training camp without further high risk factors being found he can be cleared to play.
