Patriots Injury News Barmore ready to go

Based on the report that I read, Vrable only stated that he'd be participating in the Voluntary Off Season Conditioning Program. I saw nothing that he said that would indicate that Barmore is "Ready to go". His participation is encouraging, but a far cry from he's 100% and his condition is a thing of the past/no longer a concern. Ready to go for the off season voluntary conditioning program: Yes. But that's all that was confirmed.

The D we have now is so much more watchable than the Bend But Don't Break D we had. Not putting the old D down, but this is far more entertaining. Hopefully this D will be terrifying our opponents. I thank and appreciate what FatMatt did and at the same time wanted him to go (as well as McD) for a change. Thank god people like me don't run the place! =) I felt the same way with getting BJohnson for a head coach and I really hope I won't be saying "I told you so" at the end of this season....
?

I really recommend you look inside the numbers of Vrabel's time at Tennessee. Just because they're running a different alignment up front doesn't change the defense's overall scheme. Remember, Belichick used to switch it up into a 4-3 as well (remember Roosevelt Colvin and Adalius Thomas?). He went back to a 3-4. I think the difference here has much more impact on the running game and also they'll be using all sorts of games to get pressure.

But my main point overall is that Vrabel has a bend-but-don't break defense. Expect more of the same. Just look at where Tennessee ended up in defensive stats. They gave a lot of yards. Not many points. Sounds familiar.

Honestly that is something I should have done (look into the #s) rather than view things subjectively. =) If the numbers are right like you mention (which i am sure they are) what could it be that is making me think this? From what I have seen, again subjectively, the recent D's seem at least more aggressive (not so much vs run). Could have been projecting things /shrug but yea being able to morph or as I like to call it amoebatize, to counter what the O does is very important. As we all saw last year, not being able to adjust is bad and contributes to the unemployment line.

In terms of x's and o's, BB will be unmatched which was why I knew Mayo was going to crash and burn. However, I agree with you that the D will be more entertaining as it has more talent than previously and should be much faster. I think we'll see more gang tackling which is something we haven't seen in a long time.

I suspect we will be switching from a primarily 2-gap scheme (block the guy in front of you and stop anyone getting through to either side of you, instead forcing them out to the edge) to a 1-gap penetrating scheme (get behind the line of scrimmage and disrupt the play).

Nice explanation here (in the college game) of the difference:

I think the idea is that they still will prioritize keeping 5 DBs back to prevent big gains. Give up the small passes (though hopefully the LBs are faster and will stop YAC). My sense is that Vrabel just wants to crunch QBs and is willing to give up some running yards and short passes. Be prepared for bend-but-don't break. It's really a matter of numbers. How many people are you going to keep out of the box?

IF we get's Barmore back we can stop any Offense in the game. We are looking at a Top 5 Defense trending to #1.

In a Vrabel D.. is a one-gap system.. the bend but don't break that was the Patricia D.. I hated that.. it allows for the QBs to stay in Rythym, and allows for offenses to stay in synch.

Vrabel is asking his DL to pressure the QB and eliminate the RUN to make offenses have to pass. White, Khyrsis, and Barmore,Williams will thrive in one gap systems.. it's no guessing for the defense.. hit the gap and drop the RB in the backfield, sack the QB or pressure the QB to get rid of it.

The perimeter will be locked down.. so QB'S will have no choice but to throw over the middle where all the traffic is.

Tackling in general has been lacking here. In BBs defenses as a patriots HC. He for the most part always had a lock down CB.. ty, Gilmore, Gonzo to name a few. The defense operated at the highest levels whenever we had lock down CBs.

And at one point, with Vince Wilfork on the field, ran a 3-4 defense on one side of Wilfork, and a 4-3 defense on the other.

True. In this defense we have talent at every level of the defense.. in a 3-4 alignment the DL is asked to stop the run and occupy blockers so the LBs can make plays.. in a one gap the DL is asked to penetrate the gap stuff the run and pressure the QB.

You have to look at the #s. It's a bend but don't break

One gaps are more penetrative based and no gap guessing.. it puts pressure up the middle so the QB can't step up.. it's a more aggressive style of defense.. the Titans mastered at it on thier run in 2019.. they stiffled the Ravens in that divisional game.

I think the Patriots got desperate and rushed Barmore back last year. Obviously, I don't know what his medical information said, but every other player this has happened to it usually takes a year to return. So I am hopeful he returns with no ill effect like Andrews did.

We really don't know all the facts but it's not like he played on high ankle sprain that was never given time to heal.

He had a problem and sat until they could get him on meds that allowed him to play.

From the info we have it's just as likely they rushed as they learned valuable information that they might not have learned had he not tried.

What if sat all year and waited til July to switch to the meds it could have cost him then.

We just don't really know what happened and what they can try next other than if he's ready for OTAs it appears he's giving it another try. Hopefully no more set backs.

From what I remember following the team reports last camp... he had leg cramping and when a team trainer looked at it..he suspected something more to it.. he was sent to MGH and found to have had clotting.. he was immediately put on thinners. Breer mentioned that people in the front office felt he was fast tracked to returning to soon ,and that ultimately derailed his recovery as typically guys are out all season with this type of issue.. nonetheless I'm happy to see he will be back and I hope he will get back the beast we know he is.

I hope you are right, but yes I think they could be very good
