There aren’t many players that draw the kind of public admiration that Troy Brown does from Bill Belichick.

So when rookie Bam Childress was compared to the Patriots’ do-it-all 13th-year player by the head coach, it was worth hearing.

“Similar to Troy Brown, he’s got the quickness, he has good hands, instincts. Tough kid,†said Belichick after yesterday’s 28-26 loss to the Dolphins. “He has been working hard over there. You know, in the defensive backfield we had a couple guys today that didn’t play, so Childress was on emergency duty.â€

Just like Brown has done. Just like Brown, Childress the defender lined up on slot receivers. Just like Brown, Childress lined up as a receiver. Just like Brown, Childress played on special teams.

And just like Brown, Childress came into the NFL in an inauspicious way.
-----
“Just like coach says, ‘The more you can do, the better,’ †said Childress, who hasn’t played defense since practicing at the position as a redshirt freshman in college. “If I can go out there and play defense or offense or special teams or whatever it is, just to help this team win. It’s not about me, it’s about the team.

i have loved this guy since train. camp...and i think he could eventually be a solid WR in the NFL

He has the shifty moves you see from Troy and Deion, I'd love to see Troy get another year to work with him - or at worst become an Asst. Secondary Coach.

Me too. I was worried he was a little small but hard work makes up for lack of height.

I hadn't realized he was signed from the practice squad so when I heard his name of defense yesterday I was very confused.

i was really hoping BB/SP would keep him around...never knew they had put him on the practice squad.

We keep building horizontal depth! Bam is the latest in a series of two-three way players that may be changing the nature of how team salaries are treated in the future.

It says a lot to me that he was activated for the last game. Seems like a sign of appreciation from the coaching staff for a year of solid hard work. Bodes well.
