Jackson seems on track for IR.
I'd rank them Branch, Caldwell/Childress, Brown; If not Jackson, the battle will be between Stone, Musinski, Kight, and Berlin. I think Musinski goes back to Practice Squad as insurance. Erik Davis also seems on track for the Squad.
Caldwell and Childress ahead of Brown for wear and tear, plus development reasons, keep Troy for situational work.

I don't believe he is PUP eligible, he'll either be carried on the roster, IR'd, or waived and brought back to Practice Squad - maybe.

Why not waived? The kid is supposed to have the talent, and maybe he'll show it when healthy (yep, I know what a hammy is, and mg, your smoking the wrong pencil lead if you believe I'm clueless on Practice Squad procedures). Put simply folks, this is a rookie who needs a lot of work, just like any rookie, at this moment I have him as the #5 WR with Andrews #6, but that puts him on the razor's edge with a need to make strides in his performance when he comes back. If you were a GM and cut downs start looming, you've got some guys like Childress and Kight starting to come on, what options would you be putting in the hopper? He's just another candidate until he proves himself on the practice field, BB carried some deadwood with that 5th rounder a couple years ago, a 2nd rounder in the same strait doesn't seem much different when weighing value to the team.

Wow, you really ARE saying that! You're willing to abandon a guy for whom you traded up to the high 2nd round after very close scouting, who absolutely tore up minicamp, who has a long-term affordable contract at the team's thinnest position, and whose only sin is a pulled muscle to keep your mitts on street FA Kelvin Kight?
FWIW, my estimate of the number of teams that would put in waiver claims on Chad Jackson is approx. 31.

my bad! I thought it was the rookie poster that suggested that we might waive Jackson with the hope of getting him back on the Practice Squad. I thought that we should have tolerance for such obvious ignorance. Surely, only ignorance of the procedures could lead anyone to suggest what is seems to be an idiotic idea.
But I was wrong. Since it is your suggestion, I needn't be so reserved. I believe that this suggestion is certainly among the top ten worst suggestions this offseason. Please explain why we would give our 2nd round draft choice to any team that wanted him (though waivers) whenever they wanted him (if they waited to get him off the Practice Squad). There may not be 31 teams that would claim him, but certainly at least 10.
I doubt a look back at what started this dialogue will edify anyone currantly in mother hen mode, but for grins and giggles lets postulate that I
did not advocate waiving him to place on the practice squad as a first choice. Lets instead subscribe to the theory that I expressed an opinion (also unpleasant to some) that his currant situation seemed to have him on track for the Injured Reserve. We might even consider that later in the conversation, I listed what appear to be the three options available for dealing with him as an unproven, apparently talented, injured player whom we would wish to retain. That folks would key on the more difficult option should not have surprised me, my bad for speakly frankly and not donning my Peyton Manning approved kneepads to worship at the feet of the dollar sign. How foolish of me to consider Free Agent castoff's, who are developing within the system, to be worthy of evaluation alongside an expensive two draft pick rookie. Perhaps I should also wish we had not misplaced valuable second round talents Adrian Klemm and Bethel Johnson.
Until Jackson is on the practice field he is a line item on the roster. Reportedly his talent is such that he should be given every opportunity to demonstrate his value to the team; if Bethel is the standard he will probably get three years to do so, with the caveat that Bethel earned a Special Teams slot in Training Camp his rookie year, Jackson has yet to do as much.
mg/pc, perhaps you could offer an alternative WR roster to the one I projected, here is mine again to refresh your memory: Branch, Caldwell/Childress, Brown; If not Jackson, the battle will be between Stone, Musinski, Kight, and Berlin. I think Musinski goes back to Practice Squad as insurance. Erik Davis also seems on track for the Squad.
To further annoy you, I'll explain my reasoning; I based this list on BB's remark prior to the Arizona game, claiming he had 40 spots on the roster penciled in with
known roles on the team. Branch's #1 status (if he gets his mind right) is pretty clear. I see Caldwell as another David Patton and Childress as a younger Troy Brown, neither quite up to a #2, but good situational options, Troy himself is a finite and very valuable resource, husbanded for specific needs. Finally, I have my developmental/warm body slot on the roster, Jackson. I have also stated that I'd carry Andrews as my #6, to my mind he has earned a Special Teams role (PR/Gunner/KO coverage/secondary KR) and a reserve DB role (but only because he is being carried for Special Teams).
I look forward to learning how you would assign roles on the WR roster.
