Bad news for that 2011 Oakland pick?

Fine, start a blog with every quote from the Raiders all season. And call it news. It's still not news but, whatever.

It is news, and you know it. If it had been a negative piece about the Raiders, you'd have been happy as a clam to read about it. Now, if you want to feel free to criticize those who've posted stories about the Patriots' OTAs, you should do that. After all, in the interest of consistency and all...

Oh, wait.... YOU posted one of those threads. Well, enjoy your hypocrisy.

Now, feel free to go back to all the threads where people were thrilled with Jamarcus Russell sucking because it would mean that the Raiders would end up giving New England a higher draft position, and go to the threads where people were posting about how they didn't want Campbell to go to the Raiders because that would potentially make for a lower pick, and insist that those posters were all really talking about Seymour.

The Jamarcus posts were/are actually inconsequential. Gradowski was the man in control. I hear what you're saying re the validity of the post. I just don't think Campbell is a massive improvement *

In all actuality this is good news because Bruce Gradkowski is the better quarterback but he won't be available until training camp.

I'm not so concerned with it. This pick is going to end up resulting in more 2 first round picks, 8 second round picks, 3 third round picks, a nice dinner at O Ya and a Toyota Hybrid by the time Belichick is done with it.

As long as it doesn't come with a gas pedal I'm cool with it

No offense Deus, whether you meant it or not, this whole thread seems to be one of maverick4's old tricks where he would start an "unrelated" thread to McDaniels but was fairly clear he was posting it to bash McDaniels (for example his famous thread of all of Brady's hits in 2006, 2007, and 2008). And then when anyone called him out on it, he would deny bringing up McDaniels and accuse other postings to bring his name into it when that was his original intent all along.

For that reason, I am abstaining from posting any further in this thread. I am tired of talking about the Seymour trade and wish to stop talking about it at least until we see what that draft pick produces.

I will say one thing though. Anyone who puts any stock in OTA reports is setting themselves up to look foolish. I don't listen to OTA, minicamp, or training camp reports too closely and draw conclusions. Many studs in shorts turn into major duds in pads.

It's not news until it happens in games that count, resulting in wins. And even then it's only news with respect to the extent it impacts our draft choice. Obviously everybody in the Patriots organization understood that it would be possible for this pick to land anywhere between 1 and 32, so even then it's still not really news. Essentially the Seymour trade was for pick 32 next year and anything else is icing on the cake. Fortunately the guys running the Pats are pretty realistic and not hemming and hawing over something they can't control. Sheesh. (Awaits another string of non sequitor PMs from Deus.)

I see a much better Oakland team in 2010, but a 7 win team at best, even in their division.

I expect about the same from Carolina.

A pick in the middle of both of the first two rounds sure looks nice.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders were a better team this year. Personnel-wise, they've definitely gotten better and they have a lot of young receivers who are developing well.

Campbell played on a horrific offense the last few seasons, but the blame isn't all his. The Redskins may have had a worse o-line than even the porous Bills, their starting tight end and best receiving threat missed about half the season, and after him all they have is Santana Moss. Every other Redskin WR is a #4 on a quality team, at this point in time. And did I mention that they didn't have a running game, either? The fact that he still posted solid numbers with these clowns (more td's than int's, 60+ completion pct in '09) is fairly impressive.

Campbell has a lot of bad habits developed from playing on a worthless offense, however when he's on he can be very, very good. I would cite the 2009 Saints-Redskins game as a good example of his potential. JC made some great throws on that day. If they can keep him fairly clean in the pocket for most the season, he should be able to correct his technique and decision making and become a legitimate threat at QB.

Since the Raiders already have a fairly reliable defense with upside, all this could potentially translate into a significant slide for our first round pick. Still, I guess it's better than letting Seymour leave for nothing, though at this point I think I would have made re-signing him a priority over players like Leigh Bodden (who is good, don't get me wrong, but not an elite DL like Seymour).

Not sure why there's such negative response to this thread. The Raiders will be miles better than they were last year, strictly by virtue of replacing Russell with Campbell (who is a pretty decent QB). This will directly impact a first round pick for the Pats. It matters.

1) How dare you attempt to use logic

2) Who do you think you are staying on topic

3) That is all

Seriously though I think the Raiders end up with a pick around 12 +/-2

I highlighted the games I think the Raiders have a good chance to
win.....

The best I can see the Raiders is 7-9 which should still be a top 12
pick or better.

Jason Campbell started for a team that went 4-12 last year, and had a top 5 pick. Let's let it play out and just see what happens.

That answer is CORRECT, sir!!

I'm still unsure why they're going to hand the starting job to Campbell and won't at least give Gradkowski a chance. He did some good things for their passing game last year, when healthy.

Concur.

Learning a new System takes a long time before you're effective...If the Raiders were smart, they'd let Gradkowski take the reigns, this year, while Campbell learns.

Thank JEEBUS the Raiders are stupid!!

I'm sure you're more on the side of joking than serious...but that isn't as far fetched as most might think. Consider THIS Scenario, gentlemn, if you will...:snob:

  • The Raiders finish Dead Last in the League. This is VERY possible, as anyone who's noted the improvement of ALL the teams that finished behind them, last year ~ and remember that Oakland is CHAOS ~ should know.
  • Jake Locker or someone has a great year and ~ with the STRONG likelihood of a Rookie Salary Cap locking in, and ENDING the recent period where Top 6 Pix were POISON ~ somebody offers us an Eli Manning package for the #1, and we pick up, say, the #4, a 3rd Rounder, a 2012 1st, and a 2012 5th...
  • We move back, again, swapping the #4 for, say, the #16 and another 2012 1st.
  • The #16, in turn, we swap for the #27 and an additional 2012 1st Rounder.
  • Not finished yet, we trade the #27 for a 2011 2nd Rounder...and yet another 2012 1st.
  • Finally, we trade that 2nd Rounder for one last 2012 1st.

*I'm not making ANY predictions, but if anyone thinks that isn't feasible, they need to do some studying on Draft Day Trades, over the recent years!

*That is no less than FIVE 2012 1st Rounders ~ plus a 2011 3rd and a 2012 5th ~ for an aging Defensive Lineman!!

And if Oakland finishes 4th ~ their average position, the last 3 years! ~ then we still have FOUR 2012 1st Rounders for Seymour...and GOD only knows what Belichick might do with THOSE!!

***

For the record, I would NOT have done that trade, because I consider D Linemen GOLD, and we could've easily traded other players to other teams to load up on future pix...But taken as a Fait Accompli, I consider that trade to be an EPIC Heist.

I'm just not sure you can conclude that. Sure, they might be "miles better," but it's not likely and certainly not necessarily so. Campbell has been at best(!), a so-so QB, throwing 15 picks against 20 TD's last year and winning 12 games in the last two years as a starter. Could he blossom in a new setting? Of course, but it's by no means a sure bet (and, this IS Al Davis we're talking about here). I also agree with those who would give the first shot to Gradkowski.

I do think it's fair to argue that the Raiders are getting better through their own internal growth. But, their division is tough and, as I look at their schedule, I don't see too many "gimmes." Sure, they have the Rams at Home early, but they also have the Texans, Jags and Colts and have to play an improving NFC West with a tough 49ers game and the rebuilding Seahawks. So, might they win seven instead of five games? Yeah, but that's still a top 15 pick. In the unlikely event that the Pats are hot to trot for a top pick, they certainly have plenty to trade to move up to it.

I think the problem in this discussion arises for those people who ever thought this was going to be a top five pick, which I and most folks I take seriously out here really never thought it could be; besides, BB would just trade it anyway if it were that high.
