B.G.C. 2019 NFL Draft/Patriot-Type Players Thread

Really big fan of the Iowa boys. If Fant duplicates his production, then he will probably end up in the first round. Right now, my semi-realistic QB + WR draft is Stanley x2: Nathan Stanley and Stanley Morgan Jr. I think both would be a great fit here.
Like where ur heads at!

Talked about this guy on the pod a few weeks ago. Has a Bullard type feel to him.

Allen notes

I believe his real upside is in the Run game. I've said this before it's great to be labeled versatile but are you really contributing, making + plays when lined up in different spots. Allen certainly does. For example when he's on the edge hes Quite consistent at keeping his outside shoulder clean with his length, strength & feet. Can reset, stack/shed & make a + play at/behind los. Might not sound like a big deal when you're just speaking it but you have to visualize it. Essentially he's able to press with one on, uses athletic ability and balance to shuffle down the line play contain and get off his man to make a play. He is very good natural strength, very Adept at using his Leverage, to stack and shed with ease.

Conversely when he's lined up inside he does a great job and minimizing himself as a Target by slanting himself, playing with good then and again using his length strength and athletic ability. Very tough to reach or get a hold of.

Pass rush power player w a lil finesse.

Rypien QB Boise State notes

I saw lots of one read and high low Concepts where he would work one part of the field usually with a check down.

Very very comfortable working too short /intermediate parts of the fields. Wasn't that impressed with his deep stuff but he was very very comfortable, Poised and patient working those dimensions from sideline, flats, underneath areas. I was impressed at how he let the plays develop whether it was letting his receiver work and buying a little time for letting his guys clear out space for the primary target. He was very decisive at times accurate and threw a ball with some spin on it, definitely has a velocity you want.

There were times he displayed Very good mechanics, nice balanced /sturdy base, opened up and used his hips to generate some nice power to thread the needle in tight windows, far harsh to Sidelines.

One thing that caught my eye more than a few times with the way he moved in the pocket. He definitely can improve here but he showed he has what it takes to really manipulate and create a new platform if need be.

Doesn't seem like he lacks confidence, very comfortable running the system. Seems to put the last play behind him good or bad and just shoots a shot.

Overall would like to see some small improvements everywhere. Quicker release, some improve pocket presence & show the ability to really go through his progressions. I'm definitely keeping in mind that this could be more system than player.

Mims WR Baylor

Is really a lot to like about Mims. I thought he showed the ability to get off press. Definitely isn't the typical quote on quote Baylor receiver. Short a little bit of nuance in his route running whether it was slight shoulder or head fakes or really selling on certain points whether that was trying to get the DB to bite on a route.

Probably the most impressive thing about him is his body control he really reminded me of Brandon Lloyd along the sidelines. Understood where he was, where the ball was coming from be at high low and how to Shield the defender from making an impact on the play.

Looks like a guy that can be a threat on all three levels & in really test the defense vertically and horizontally.

I believe the play was against you and Thomas where he got a hand on the ball Mims was able to tap it to himself knew he was going to the ground didn't panic and secure the catch. Just a really really heady play. Again he demonstrated great body control, calmness and just made it happen. He's just a really smooth player definitely needs a little Improvement on his route running but he's a really really fun play to watch.

Another play that it really stands out look like a bang 8 in the red zone just a really really heavy play sold the fake to the outside and play with his to be had.

Riley Neal

There really is so much to like about Riley Neal. There's not a lot that he doesn't do pretty well. Let's go through and check some boxes.

He looks comfortable and I've seen them succeed under Center, from the gun, and on the move. Again looks very smooth comfortable knows what he's doing. This is important because it shows not only has he worked on these things and practice with coaches but again he can translate that onto the field very important for the next level.

In terms of mechanics his base looks very sturdy balanced and it shows a nice transfer away from his lower half to his upper half. His delivery is a bit tardy and it almost looks like he pushes the ball out is as opposed to to just the ball firing out of his hand but it works for him. Reminds me a little bit of Philip Rivers in terms of the way the ball comes out not necessarily the delivery.

One thing you can't not notice and is very impressive about him is that he consistently goes through his progressions, will hold a safety or move a linebacker, he can navigate his way around the pocket to create a new one, he can climb the ladder while keeping his eyes downfield and hit his second or third read. Very impressive in this regard.

His arm isn't the Allen, Russell category, but he can touch and work all three levels with ease. He has enough zip and velocity. I've seen him throw far/middle hash to sideline, thread the needle between Defenders, he showed good placement on several throws whether it was back shoulder or hitting his man on a slant route and putting it right in his mid-section so only he could catch it. His arm passes all the test.

I've seen him take a few hits of course that's not what you want to see but he got right back up and Truckin. Toughness is there.

One play I want to talk about believe it was versus Tennessee Tech. He was initially looking for the go and had it but felt and recognize pressure coming from the edge stepped up and hit his man between two Defenders. There was several places like this that demonstrated patience and poise to work the pocket, find some space all while keeping his eyes downfield and knowing where his targets are supposed to be.

He did have to 2 ints during that game but I didn't hate either. The first one probably shouldn't have been thrown to at Target but his men definitely had a chance to catch it and it look like it was taken away from him by the defender. There was also another Defender almost draped on him and nowadays in the NFL that guy might have a warrant for his arrest after the game. I believe the other one went through his man's hands again not ideal they seemed correctable to me.

I really like this player

Lukas Denis BC slot/S notes
7 ints/16 pd/80 tackles

Lined up outside, nickel/slot, single high, press/off, blitzed. Swiss army knife type Defender. Bouncy, light on his feet, short area quicks.

Reads QB, WR, Formation, quick mental processing. Looks back, turns head.

+ instincts has np breaking off coverage & making a ball on the ball. Wants to be that playmaker. Trust what he sees & feels. That said very responsible in coverage. Whether it's taking a hand off/knowing where to be & who he's got, funneling inside, using sidelines, sniffing out screens etc he's on point. Again wants to be the playmaker but his ints are a result of doing his job & taking advantage of others mistakes.

will absolutely make u pay for poorly thrown balls, tips & misses.

Eraser in the mof/sidelines esp intermediate/short area. Very aware of what's happening/what's the play, understands the ball is coming out quick

Cen Michigan play. Baits Seem route. Knows where it's going doesn't scare QB. Breaks in front for INT.

Not a Killa in the run game. Missed a few tackles ankle biting.

Reminds me a bit of Buddy Baker, Honey badger

Tommy Sweeney TE BC

Has the size. Probably could add a few more lbs & get stronger.

Lined up inline, backfield, slot

Gets after it as a blocker & can nasty, likes to finish of he can. Stalk, wham, combo. Stays tight, gets inside, moves legs. Routinely opened up holes/lanes.

Reliable pass catcher. Won't blow u away w speed or quicks but presents himself as a big target, moves well enough. Can gash you if left open or has some space/missed tackle. Uses body to block out defenders.

Would like to see some work on rr & tighten up there. Refine that area. Could get his head around a bit quicker.

Could make a living be a vg #2 TE. Extra/pesudo OL, make u pay on misdirection, short crossers.

I'm in love w Montez Sweat. Dude is so good. Looks a bit high cut but he's impressive. Not a solid comp but at times reminds me a bit of Chandler Jones w how long he is. Esp on hesitation, basketball-like moves, I just can't help but see a lil of him in Sweats games. Writing in him Tonight.

Another guy I really like is Byron Murphy CB Wash. So smooth, reminds me of Sidney Jones in that regard. VG ball skills & ability to locate the ball. Long arms. + Smarts. Has to clean up his technique in tight quarters though. Looks like the next good one from Washington.

Another guy from the top 50-100 on nepd months ago. Very precise, sharp r/r.

What do you think of Milton? Very productive, but he's not the prototype by any means. Great first half tonight. I expect a huge season.

He makes it happen out there for sure. Very nice touch/placement on almost all of his deep stuff. He usually puts it in prime spots for his guys to make a play. Works the entire field which is nice considering he's on the shorter side. MOF is always something I'm looking for w those guys & again he works everywhere. Vg on the move.

That offense is pretty nice - the OL so he's gone put up big #'s again.

Just has to bulk up some.

What do you think about Stanford QB K.J Costello?

He saved their ass last year & I always like guys that can run their offense. No matter if it's gimmicky or complicated. That said he has a weird delivery & hitch in his motion that scares me a bit. Big year for him.
