Sorry, I meant 5 receivers, not 4. Unless Carr can catch punts (plzplzplzplz), Lucien comes a lot closer to filling a hole. As impressive as he was, I just don't know if Carr can do anything that Edelman, Cooks, Hogan, Mitchell and Amendola can't do. I think Lucien can.

Nice to see to our WR's and TE's actually catch the ball when it touches their hands ! Kept expecting drops, but especially Hollister and Carr caught everything near them.

As a Fresno state fan, Hollister reminds me of bear Pascoe,in that he is a very skilled TE, but probably just doesn't have the physical tools to compete at this level. Hope I'm wrong, because the guy definitely showed up to play last night.

Like another poster said, usually that 3rd TE is for a big boy, but let's wait and see what happens at the T position. Who knows, maybe Garcia can play TE like solder did his rookie year, and add in Develin's versatility blocking.....who knows?

I think both are the real deal as far as NFL players. My concern is fans having reasonable expectations when it comes to the relative ceiling of these players.

Carr to me is a 3rd WR who works the slot and gets 700 yards at best.

Hollister is a TE who while it seems he has a skill set it is narrow and not so amazing that it makes him special which means he is a TE2 at best.

Still I would rather they be here than not.

scott I think the Pats are going to take their chances on Hollister making the PS I think his body has a ways to go he needs to get more stronger he looks a little light in the pants. Move TE's like Hollister are a dime dozen and can be add anytime. On Austin Carr I disagree Pats can carry Six WR's at the expense of carrying only Two TE's. They have plenty of Spots on the PS to carry extra TE's.

I agree with you that Hollister has a better chance to get waived and snuck onto the practice squad, whereas Carr most likely winds up on the Jet's team if waived. I would love for the Pats to have Carr on the active roster, I felt he was the most Pat's like receiver available in the draft, and was thrilled they signed him.

That being said, I believe Hollister received the highest guaranteed money out of any UDFA signed by any team (or was that Carr ?), and the injury history of the Pat's top 2 TEs, I'd be surprised if they only carry 2 TEs.

Don't think you remember the three of them well then because all three made great plays throughout their respective camps, preseason exhibitions and some even in regular season games. So far there is no reason to assume that Carr isn't just the new, shiny 2017 version of that. I didn't see any consistent separation he was able to gain against the second and third string defenders yesterday which is a red flag imho.

Hollister would have to have a Sudfeld-esque remaining 3 weeks and break out to have a shot at a roster spot. O'Shaughnessy and Lengel are less one-dimensional and provide additional value on ST and as inline blockers, respectively.

Those 3 showed promise, but none of them showed the kind of compete going up and getting the ball in traffic that Carr showed.

KT and Tyms showed more than Carr has so far, so I got no idea what you are talking about. Just take a look at some of the tough catches Tyms made on balls from JG in the 2015 preseason or the catch in Buffalo. KT actually played in proper NFL games against real defenses. Have you seen how good Bolden looked against the Jaguar second and third stringers ? That's how big the falloff between preseason and regular season is.

But whatever.. in all likelihood people will forget his name in a few months anyway..

Don't know about that. Hollister may be more polished. Derby only played 1 or 2 years at TE in college after moving from QB. I see Hollister more as a big receiver. Only 240 pounds, but good speed (under 4.7).

I agree that they showed "more", but they had a lot more opportunities. It was the athletic jump up and fight for the ball specifically that I was referring to, a skill few Pats receivers have displayed in recent years. If he can get on the same page with Brady (big if), this kid might make the team. That's all I said... Again, I am referring to a very specific skill, one that Carr has displayed much more of than the players you cited, and with a caveat... that he gets on the same page as Brady.

Here's the thing on Carr; As good as he looks against 2nd and third teamers, it seems to me that he doesn't have the physical skills to gain separation from starting NFL DB's. He has "good" quickness, but not the great quickness we saw from Welker, and now Edelman. One the plus side, he runs diciplined routes and IS where he is supposed to be and has good hands On the TD catch he showed excellent virtical.

I see Carr as a possible roster pick IF there are a couple of injuries at WR, but I still think he's behind Lucien in the race to see who is the best WR who is going to get cut in September. I'm guessing the Pats will want to keep them on the PS, but I'm guessing one or both will wind up with the Jets.

BTW- another factor against Carr is that I'm not sure he's playing any role on ST's, which will make it harder for him to stick

I think the team will find a place for Carr. When it comes to Hollister, I'll have to see him at least play against actual NFL talent.
