Patriots Rumor Asante's asking to be traded?

No kidding. I remember in December 2005 Deion and Shannon and all the former player talking heads were deriding the Patriots for having NO secondary. Then last December they were all up in arms about what a travesty it was when 'Sante didn't make the Pro Bowl.

BB has been watching and coaching this kid for 4 years now. I think he was never quite as low on him, nor is he quite as high on him. Although I think he likes him a lettle better now than he did when he was courting Townsend and Law this time last year.

It's a shame too. In this system Asante could probably eventually convince the media voting block to send him to the HOF...but who cares about that when your 25. There is an old veteran saying that when your playing days are over all you have left are your memories and your money. Asante has 2 rings so potentially all that's really left is to secure his money. And it's kind of a catch 22 here because Belioli aren't going to pay the big bucks to guys whose top priority is securing the money.

We've seen that a lot. I made the statement right after the Branch trade - the Patriots don't have any stars until they leave.

I agree - I am not trying to say that the guy is a dog - but he is not as good as many people make him out to be. They look at the shiney Int's but overlook his many faults that nullify them.

Again I think the best outcome for the long term is to trade him. But I will take him for a reasonable deal. But IMHO he is only keeping the number one slot warm for Hobbs.

I just read the quote in which he said "I really, really hope it doesn't come to that" about him moving on.

As long as he stays that classy, I don't mind him negotiating through the media. Oh, I'd rather he weren't doing it; but I'm not going to hold it seriously against him.

And yes, he's still negotiating with the Pats rather than trying to force his way out of town.

we need to settle down here... a lot of the posts on this thread and the related ones can be sumed up by the following: Knee Jerk reactions. Sit tight people, Belichick and Pioli are smarter and have more experience with this sort of thing than you do. Remember last offseason and people were freaking out and we ended up 2 drops or 30 seconds away from another superbowl. Maybe step back and gain some perspective.

For now, until something else falls and then he lets loose and starts shooting his way out of town.

He didn't actually ask to be traded, he said :

"If a long-term deal can’t be done at fair numbers for me and New England, then I want to be traded"

It seems like a reasonable statement of fact to me, not a threat.

Maybe Washington will do the swap they offered Chicago for Briggs. The #6 for the #28 and Samuel. Then the Pats can draft Landry and move Wilson to CB.

To sweeten the deal for washington, they can have marquise hill too.
Go Pats:rocker:

But the comment about what "other" teams are offering becomes alarming and potentially deal breaking in most cases. Since teams would exaggerate a price.

He has technically said nothing wrong at the moment but i give it time before something comes out into the open.

hopefully everything goes well and he settles in here for a while.

Well I just want his value. Whether it's him on the field or appropriate return for a trade. If he has offers from other teams, we're halfway to getting a deal done.

2. Trading for 2's and 3's is less glamorous than getting a "3rd First Round Pick!!1!" but it's also far less expensive.

Less expensive but you're allocating more roster spots to rookies at the end of the day if you trade for a couple of 2's or 3's or a combo instead of a straight swap for a 1st. We already have ten picks as things currently stand, including four comp picks.

were not gonna give him the money

Washington already has a Gatorade boy on the sidelines - Marquise Hill would just be an overpaid Gatorade boy

Ty Law? -GONE
Lawyer Milloy? -GONE
Deion Branch? -GONE
David Givens? -GONE
Willie McGinest? -GONE
Damian Woody? -GONE
Christian Fauria? -GONE
Corey Dillon? -GONE
Ted Washington? - GONE
Keith Traylor? -GONE
Asante Samuel? -????

Except for the short holdout by Seymour which ended up as a mutually agreed extension if you don't like the offer you are GONE,we won't give more if your personal opinion on value for yourself is too high or if age is a factor as evidenced in the list above (Milloy may be an exception to that list somewhat - a different situation there)

Likely it gonna be Bye Bye Asante unless he backs down on his expected personal value he sees himself as - Can it be Goodbye Samuel,Hello Revis?

The plot thickens...

All I said is if we can trade him i want a young stud player and a draft pick I really think we can land rocky mchintosh i think that's how u spell it. And the number 6 pick for our 24. Keep in mind Supposedly BB tried to get rocky before he would of drafted Laurence or Chad that Rocky was ahead of both of them on his board.

Or how about a trade to Cleveland for a second and fourth and a second next year I'd do any one of those. Anything but seeing him in a jet's jersey I'd really have to burn my number 22 jersey then. O and this is off topic but in my Madden Franchise Samuel Is a 99 with 92 hands.

Crazy huh?

Besides Milloy and Meion none of these guys made tumultuous exits. The only other guy who almost made a **** of himself was Joe Andruzzi who had his cousin or brother (can't remember) cry to the media about how poor Joe wanted to stay here. Right now Asante is walking a fine line, but he hasn't quite stepped on any toes yet.

Do I think Assante is worth Nate Clemmens money ??? no.. But who on the roster right now going to replace Assante? No one.. Which is why we need to get him signed ... I think we will be ok with out him,but still will want him on the team

If we only were God or had a crystal ball that showed us the awesome rookie year at least one of these guys will likely have (Revis,Hall,Ross,Houston,Griffin) - I would pick one of them and send Asante packing with some nice extra draft picks if that was the case instead of dealing with a potential Deion thing again this year from what it looks like right now.

The guy had a great year and the agent wouldn't be representing if he didn't try to drive a hard bargain.

We're in much stronger position than with Seymour and we got that done.

I like Asante and he's given indication he wants to say. Who knows what's posturing here?

Don't forget, they were willing to go almost 6.5 mil for 6 years on Branch and good cornerbacks are more valuable IMO.

We got the tag, 2 #1's if we need them and some indication that both sides want to get it done. Just a numbers game now.

The way I'm reading into his comments, Asante needs to be traded as quick as possible as he can while landing the Pats proper compensation.

Eliminate all AFC East opponents
No to the Chargers

Maybe the Bears need a third partner for the Briggs trade. Washington can move Rogers or Springs if they really want to.

Giants don't have much to offer except their picks.

Green Bay only has better picks in the draft.

Arizona has a huge item in Edge James, but that doesn't solve the CB position. It does give the team a quality running back to make an even better combo in the backfield. But no.

Cleveland might be a decent option but the compensation is hard to determine.

Ideas?
