Interesting. I guess I hadn't heard it this clearly stated before. Apologies if it was and I just missed it.

Patriots secondary anticipates Moss's return - Extra Points - Boston.com

Asked if there was any ill will when Moss was traded, Arrington said, ``Aw, nah, we all love Randy to death. A lot of us wish he were still here, but we also understand the business side of it and, you know, it was his decision to make, so this week he's our opponent.''

It was pretty clear to anyone who didn't have their deeply tinted Randy glasses on that if he wanted to remain here and be a team first player and see if he could win a ring he'd still be here. That didn't work for him, ergo it couldn't work for Bill.

Bill keeps a sign on the wall that says "If you don't want to be here, you don't have to be here."

My sense is that Randy drew a line and got called on it, and probably regrets it. I'll never forget that look on his face at the end of the Dolphins game -- he was looking out at the field and was obviously full of emotion. And I don't think it was just the no catches thing. In hindsight, it's like he knew it was his last game with the Pats, and he maybe had messed up a good thing.

I concur. Imagine if he learned his leason, and signed with us next year for a significant hometown discount? It probably wont happen, but would be really cool if it did.

Worst mistake of his professional career. He is going down on the SS Favre.. that ship is sinking fast.

He is 38. I think people lose sight of that. As great as he is age is a slippery slope.

That was my initial reaction to the trade knowing Favre's penchant for team destruction but I never thought it would be this bad this soon for Moss. NFW he puts up those big numbers he so coveted for this his contract year. I liked him here, am not sad he's gone and wish him the best starting Monday.

Mankins does not want to be here...don't see BB cutting him

Sometimes it posturing. Sometimes it's genuine. Asante and Ty have said the same thing and they lasted an additional season. It seems that Mankins is being really stubborn but that's my opinion.

IMO it comes down to weighing the player's production vs the risk and downside.

If Moss was putting up 2007 numbers, he'd still be here.

If Seymour was performing at a 2003 level, he would not have been traded before the 2009 season- he would have been extended.

I'm sure if they could get value for Mankins, they would trade him just like they did Moss.

I don't know about the Seymour trade, I think Seymour would have been traded no matter how he was performing. He came off a great year, i'm sure if it were anything less than a first round pick BB would not have traded him.

Everyone on the roster except for Brady is on the market, for a first round pick anyway.

Seymour had a good year, but it was his first since 04. I think BB could tell Seymour wasn't the most motivated guy, or do people just beleive in coincidences? Not me, Seymour realized he could get paid, played his butt off and had a good season. Has he even been the same guy from 08? Nope.

I don't see anyone can say this wasn't the right move, even if the 1st rounder is a bust that's more of scouting than a bad trade. You think the Raiders would get anything more than a 3rd for Seymour today? I realize Seymour's departure created a hole at DE that we're hoping someone will one day fill. But to get a first rounder for Seymour at that stage, from the Raiders no less was brilliant.

Bad as the donkeys and chargers have been, I trust them to end up being a better team than the Raiders. Rarely do you see 2 team with a good QB situation remain garbage while a team with no QB has success. The Rairders better have the Ravens D, that they sure don't.

Does the sign say that you get to shoot your way out of town on your own terms ? No.

Mankins is a commodity and will be used how the Patriots choose while they control him. Starting in a few weeks that means he's on the team. After the season things will play out per the new (or lack of a) CBA. Mankins doesn't have to be here and he isn't. That doesn't mean he gets to be released.

He is 33. And just in case you were talking about Favre he is 40.

Edit: Late to the party.

He's not here by choice. He didn't have to be by rule. If he signed his tender and still didn't want to be here, and started yapping to the media about his situation while he was here, he'd have probably been traded. As it is if he comes in it will be because he wants to be here, either to get credit for his year of service or to showcase himself for 2009. If it's just the former he may not play. If it's the latter he probably will. If he's disruptive behind the scenes he could still be cut. But I doubt he will be because being cut in week 10+ doesn't do anyone including him and good and he supposedly has no issues with his HC or his teamates - who wouldn't take too kindly to disruptive behavior potentially impacting their business... No team does. There is a reason players like TO or Haynesworth don't get much support. I doubt the Cowboy wants to play that game no matter how upset he is with this organization. He's still hoping for that $8M deal. Perception can change pdq in this business. Just ask the still unemployed AD.

Not sure I agree that Sey was great in 2008. He was very good, but not 2003 levels IMO.

SS Favre That ship is sinking faster than any I've ever seen.
