Are the Chiefs in trouble?

Saying that KC is in trouble is a little bit strong. Perhaps a fair question would be have they peaked?
They peaked last year when they won the SB. Love when peolple declare dynasties after one SB and a good regular season :)

Belichick smiles.

If the Patriots beat the Dolphins at home last season and the Chiefs end up as a Wild Card instead of stealing our #2 seed bye, that Chiefs team goes nowhere and we're not even talking about them right now.

Give them credit, they rode a wave, overcame a ton of odds and went on to back-to-back Super Bowls. I got a feeling though that KC will be taking that post-Malcom Butler Seahawks detour now that they got manhandled on the biggest stage.

Even their games from the regular season this year they didn't have the feel of a team that was unbeatable. There were questions about the defense, and in many games they won the offense was enough to win but not much more.

Will they make the playoffs, yes. Beyond that with all the QB's moving around and players available with a $180m salary cap, who knows how far they go.

But the media told me Mahomes is pressure proof due to his superior athletic ability.

Ya where’s that article that the pressure didn’t get to him even with this oline like that

Hard to say there's a blueprint to beat KC. It's extremely hard that KC was missing both of their starting offensive tackles. Ruined the whole OLine. Think about Malcolm Butler not playing and every secondary player playing out of position....
  • Line in total shambles
  • Mahomes clearly not full speed with turf toe
  • No real dual threat tight end (Kelce's shortcomings finally matter)
  • Two absolute monsters for Tampa with Suh and Vea wrecking the interior line
  • Two very good edge rushers in Barrett and JPP
  • Probably the fastest linebacker duo in the league in David and White
  • A secondary without great players but with a lot of very competent ones, playing dime with two deep safeties
  • Chiefs playing from behind and increasingly needing big yardage
  • Baffling gameplan on offense that didn't adapt and had very few designed quick passes
  • A lot of uncharacteristic drops from KC receivers
Yeah, that's not a replicatable gameplan. But I do think teams should force KC to beat them on 10/12 play drives and sellout to take away the big play and double Kelce. Clearly KC has way less depth than perceived and are superstar-reliant on offense.

The Chiefs fate will be determined by the draft because guys will get older and some will leave. Bad drafts was one of the major reasons it ruined the Rams in the early 2000's. The Seahawks are hanging around even with their poor drafts. They landed arguably the league's best WR, but they can't draft D. And bad drafts ended the Pats latest run.

Chiefs are becoming a one trick pony with their "throw deep" mentality which guys like Hill won't last forever. Also, their offense has always been gimmicky and need to focus on running the ball more.

They'll probably draft the fastest WR available at #31

They need O-line. They'd be making the same mistake the Rams did drafting Trung Candidate in Faulk's prime. What an awful pick that was.

What about the PSU TE? Kelces no spring chicken, could have a nice ertz goedert type combo. Then grab middle interior OL and LB day 2 and 3.

The Chiefs are $17 million over the cap next year, with only 45 players signed! Breland and Sorenson are their two biggest Free Agents, the only contract that they could cut and get significant cap savings from is the Honey Badger (10 million in cap savings).

So they will be OK next year, they just won't have any room to make a big time splash in free agency. Technically they played last night without their starting left and right tackles and one guard, all of them will be back next year.

I suggest that you go on a couple of the Chiefs message boards before you praise their returning O-lineman. They are not nearly as optimistic as you are and they actually watch the team every week.

Tardif was average at best in 2019 and hasn’t played for a year. Schwartz is 32, coming off an significant back injury and was apparently playing poorly before the injury. Fisher just tore his Achilles two weeks ago, so who knows wiTore his Achilles two weeks ago, so who knows when he will return to full strength.

TE isn't a glaring need, but O-line needs to be focused on early. DB and LB as well. Too many feel good stories on D. They need some talent.

Next year, they will have 3 OL-men back....and Mahomes won't be running around like last night. Watkins is gone...but Pringle, Hardman, and Robinson can replace that production or lack thereof. CEH will be better next year.

Defense is where the Chiefs will be in trouble, IMO. After Breeland and Sorenson are replaced by JAGs....teams will only need to worry about Chris Jones and Honey Badger...that's it.

And taking Hill out of the game is gonna be how things roll in every game next year and onwards, IMO. You just can't let Hill run around..... and containing Mahomes to the pocket...flooding the short zone to clog up Kelce. Those 3 things will be the Chiefs' problems next year when they need to score points quick. The offensive line will buy time to get routes to develop though....

But Mahomes is a truly great QB that you cannot count out ever.... 5-2 in the post-season....with 3 of those wins coming from behind....and one loss where he came back, but never saw the ball again in OT.

He got pressured on 50% of his dropbacks and this is your take out of it?

He's suppose to be a mobile QB. Maybe Andy Reid can't scheme it up. Nobody noticed they were missing their starting tackles?

Take Hill and Kelce out is the blueprint but we have already seen that.

Also, don't have your defense and special teams go into full scale meltdown mode or have your coach with 20 years of clock mismanagement......mismanage the clock.

Andy Reid is not all that.

Held his post season press conference today and spoke directly about what is most pressing at the moment. Preparing the team for the 2021 season and another Super Bowl quest.

In lieu of the damage that Eric Reid has caused and the condition of a 5 year old girl with brain trauma, would it not it have been best for Andy Reid to type out a statement and have Biemeny hold the press conference? Seems to me that Reid should be concentrating on the girl in the hospital and his home life thats in shambles. Once more, the little girl is second fiddle to the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl.

Moving on, Reid did speak about seeing his son and letting everybody know that Erics surgery went well and that he is doing better.

Closing, when asked about the myriad of KC penalties, Reid stated that some would be challenged with the league and that it was shame to have calls like that determine a game of this magnitude.

Andy sucks.

I don't think this was on Mahommes, the guy made some incredible throws that boinked off his receivers helmets. It did show that if you take Hill away and limit Kelce and can beat the O-line with just your front 4, then you can make him look pedestrian. Kinda like what the Giants did to the 07 Pats.

I do think that once the cap hits start coming, Andy Reid isn't going to be able to coach up lesser talent the way BB can.
And like Pete Carroll can not either.

I think that was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. The picture from that play is now on the Chiefs front page at reddit.

Every team loses players. The best rosters have depth that provides adequate replacements. The Chiefs' OLine replacements were horrible. Missing the tackles, or another skill position, in inevitable. The Chief's QB was OK, the WRs were OK, the TE was OK, the heart of the DLine was OK, so overall the Chiefs were quite "injury lucky" in 2020. That will not repeat. And if the Chief's do not rebuild their depth, while their salary cap gets a lot tighter, they will become the '13 and '14 Seahawks.

It seemed like Gronk and AB were most of the receptions. Godwin seemed to wilt in the bright lights. Tyler Johnson had a ball bouncing off his shoulder pads. The weapons are good, but did not seem ridiculous.

Based on yesterday's game, the best weapons an offense can have is the opponent's special teams and defense melt down. Every drive was extended by bonehead plays.

Green Bay was equally boneheaded with the end of the first half and then the fumble to start H2.

How did we go 20 years and never face such a comedy clown string of opponents in the playoffs?
