Any Way Michael Floyd Returns to New England?

. . .

Mitchell could do a sophomore slump like Dobson did. On paper, Floyd has the second most talent of any Pats WR.

OK, Let's discuss personal NO-NOs from the Pats roster or past. Blount got caught with herbius weedius, just as bad as alcohol. BB's own son got caught more than likely...inhaling! Rodney Harrison and Nink, busted for PEDs. One of the top Draft picks, Second Rounder Brandon Spikes got caught doing a porno. Moss was no choir boy and Corey Dillon makes Floyd look like Mother Teresa. They gave Hardy a second chance and he did not take advantage of it and it looks like Mixon will be Drafted.

But if you want to see the poster boy for being a "drunk" and turning it around to a Hall of Fame career, it was Chris Carter.
Would anyone on this forum would have rejected a sober Chris Carter on the Pats back then? He got a second chance.

His cost should be reasonable. He has more talent at WR than anyone we will pick with our available picks. He at least has some of our system down. I would say the Pats saw something in him to take a shot, perhaps Charlie Weis, his coach at Notre Dame, gave BB the insight. It cost the Pats a million and a half for a look-see for two games. I think they give this kid an offer for a longer stay.

I think there might be another position for Floyd which makes him valuable. "The more you can do".....and all. Hernandez was only slightly heavier than Floyd. Jordan Reed of the Redskins is about than light as well. Remember Hernandez was an "H" back Tight End who lined up on a wing.

Why couldn't you use Floyd as a flex TE "H" back as well as WR? He could be a massive mismatch for a defense and he CAN block. Can't recall a Hernandez block, can you? He's a few doughnuts and BigMacs away from a few more pounds but I like him at 220-225lbs.

Quibble with your point: I think it was actually coke and therefore missing team meetings. " But all he does is catch touchdowns" was the most backhanded 'slam' (actual intentional praise) that any coach ever gave a cut player.

Yeah, Weis supposedly stuck up for him(Floyd), but not his old coach. and carter wasn't going to a team he had to compete for slot #5. He walked in as at least 2 or 3. So comparison not entirely there.

Regardless, I like your TE /H back idea, but Floyd likely would see Greener (show me the . . ) pastures elsewhere.

Yes, the block was amazing. Also the TD where he carried about 3 guys in to the end zone wasn't bad. He's very talented, always has been. You're right though, those 5 guys currently on the roster are locks. I would hope they'd carry an extra WR. I realize it's a long shot, but think he's capable of having some significant moments if he was on the team.

Slater really fudges the WR numbers up.. He's an All-Pro special teamer so you have to keep him on the roster, but he takes up that #6 WR slot..

Or you could look at it another way in that Belichick usually keeps like 3-4 core special teamer roles (not counting LS, K, P) that basically play nothing but ST.. meaning they never contribute on offense or defense, even as a sub-package/rotational guy

There are only a few obvious positions you can reduce on your roster to accommodate those Specialist roster spots, but its typically from RB/WR/DB

Bolden is another guy.. hes been great on ST, but this might be the year he's bumped from the roster in favor of all the talented players they have at RB.. so if you get rid of Bolden, you can't afford to also get rid of Slater (or vice versa) without significantly impacting your ST unit

Between Bolden or Slater, if I had a gun to my head and was forced to make a decision on who to cut, I would choose (reluctantly) Bolden

Floyd could work (with 1-2 injuries to wr or te) because he might be able to play either position. He's big enough and strong enough to back up at tight end for a game or two. (blocking at the pos. might be doubtful, however)

He is not a TE
