If it "blows up in Bill's face" what's the worst that happens? He is a complaining diva, the Pats cut him, and they're forced to go back to their WR group of Gordon, Edelman, Thomas, and Dorsett, with Harry coming back halfway through the season? Oh well.

See that's the thing: their WR corps is already so good and deep that they can totally withstand this "blowing up". They'd "waste" some cap space, but that's a pretty small thing to risk at this point, given the potential reward.

This sets up potentially the most epic season in U.S. sports history, which would go something like this:

1. With AB coming in, Patriots move on from Dorsett
2. Thomas can't come all the way back from the Achilles, or pops something else during his return
3. Gordon suspended again
4. AB goes nuts, again, needs to get cut
5. Patriots, bizarrely, are down to Edelman, Harry, Meyers and street FAs.
   
6. Entire NFL laughs at Patriots, who then go on to win SB

I don't want Dorsett to go, for the record. I'd rather see the team keep all the WRs and sweat Gunner getting to the PS.

I was driving in my car when this was announced and almost went off the road. My first thoughts: who will they cut to make room for him and have the Patriots hired a hypnotist to work with this lunatic.

As I said, I believe YESTERDAY before Brown was even rumored to be released and it was theoretically posed about the Pats interest in AB...it’s all about risk, reward, value relative to the cap. Brandon Cooks costs $18M per year and you can only get him if you guarantee like $50M and give him a four year deal. That’s the free agency market for WRs. Risking $9M relative to Brown’s talent is buying when his stock is really, really low. There are few scenarios where a superstar player’s stock is THIS low despite still being in his physical prime, or close to it. If OBJ is worth almost $20M, Brown at $9M with an easy out if he implodes? Too good to pass up.

Also a major factor is the confidence in the locker room in New England.

Another way of looking at it: figure if either Brown OR Gordon stay on the right path, this is a top offense in the NFL.

Definitely needed someone who could command double coverage, they now have it.

I think we should definitely be excited, the offense needed to replace a HOF calibre threat in Gronk and this helps.

I'm not that concerned about him off of the field, if Bill is willing to give him this kind of guaranteed coin i'm sure he isn't that concerned either, he clearly wanted out of Oakland.
