Care to explain this one? NE is 7th in rushing yards per game even after the Dallas game. How is that "wholly [un]impressive" when they are .3 ypg less than Indy? Is Indy wholly unimpressive as well?

I already refuted your claim earlier that NE passes more often than Indy in the early part of games. I will now go through and compare NE's rushing totals vs. Indy's comparative to who they played.

Edit:

Indy's opponents have allowed an average of 118.7/game while Indy has rushed for 142. 23.3 better than standard opposition.

NE's opponents have allowed an average of 121.1/game while Indy has rushed for 141.7. 20.6 better than standard opposition.

Wholly unimpressive indeed.
PM has taken 7 knees, bump that average to 4.78 please. Looks like Brady has taken 3, so NE is 4.29. I'd say a half yard is a pretty big difference.

Let me put it this way. I feel like NE uses the running game to keep the defense honest, and the passing game to score points. 21 to 5 in the TD dept.
Colts actually use the run as part of their offense. 10 to 8 in the td dept. I think your numbers in the pass dept have risen the past few weeks, in part due to LM injury, but also because you can throw at will. Gme plans are a part of it, but you haven't faced a team like the run stuffing Vikes of last season, you have no reason to throw multiple times in succession.
All I know is that the gaudy numbers didn't work so well for the Colts a few years back, and as you know come playoff time, those ref don't like to throw those hankys. So, who knows what the opposition will be able to do to those route runners you have.

With regards to the 2004 NFL season, the Colts were 19th in points allowed while the New England Patriots were 2nd in points allowed. That is a huge difference. Meanwhile, the Patriots played a tougher schedule and were in a tougher division.

Just a reminder ..... 3 points scored.

Your right, it was '05.

Just a reminder

32 points scored

If memory serves me correctly, we did face the "run stuffing Vikes of last season" - last season, at Minnesota!

As I recall, it was a thumping, such that, after the game, the Minnesota coach opined that "this is the blueprint for defeating the Vikings".

Again, we thumped them last year, with last year's lineup - not this year's.

Nice try, tho...

Yes dork, I realize that, and used it to make my point. Folks are talking about game plans, and taking what teams give you, playing to their weakness, etc..., This season, you are attacking via the pass, yet you haven't faced a team like the run stuffing Vikes of last year. IF one of these 6 games you have played WERE VERSUS a team like the Vikes of last season(so I am IN SUPPORT of the game plan you used versus the Vikes last season), I would buy the arguement, but you haven't faced that type of team yet.

Keeping a defense honest isn't "part of the offense" or the offensive scheme?

And why don't the Pats have "no reason to throw multiple times in succession"? if it puts points on the board and wins games in the end, why does it matter?

Why does everyone make such a huge deal about stats? I personally don't care much about them, because all that matters is getting the W, period.

No offense, but I didn't think the article was that bad. He brings up some fair points. If you remember the Colts game did show how deficient the Pats were in the speed department. That's just a fact.

I do think Clark has better hands than Watson, but Watson is a far superior athlete. He kinda left that out.

Our Patriots are getting plenty of props, but you're going to have biased articles praising other teams. Not a biggie, IMO. It just didn't come across as too outlandish to me. I think the overall premise will be proven wrong, but time will tell on that.

I keep getting a chuckle at the "The Colts defense is better this year" theory.

Their defense began playing very well toward the end of last season.
Their defense has looked pretty darn good in the games I've watched them this season.
I believe the Colts defense IS better than last season based on what I've seen.
What's to chuckle about.

I am so glad the Patriots play the Colts in a few weeks. And I am thrilled that its in the RCA dome. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that Indy doesnt lose to the Jaguars before that game.

No matter what the sports writers say, The Patriots are a far superior team and will destroy them on their home field for the world to see.

Have you taken a gander at the teams they've played? They've played one team that's got any real offensive capabilities, and that team's been terrible so far this season.

Are you Krahen, Imperator?

You? Calling me "dork"? Isn't that rich!!!!!

My reading of the thread is that you are the only one who broached the subject of game plans, which your supposed knowledge of, given your posts on this thread, is something less than underwhelming.

If you're so worked up about this (Patriots) team's running game, why invoke a phantom opponent from last year? Why not invoke the '85 Bears?

Logic isn't your strong point here - not that it ever is.

Why don't you go back to reading the comics in the Star? That's doubtless more your challenge level.

Have a nice weekend....
