Re: And now..batting for Wrong Borges...Mike Felger!!!

Felgie is a smug self-satisfied bimbo who brings absolutely NO football insight into his media presentations. The only time I see or hear of the guy is on Patriots Fifth Quarter where the spineless squirt keeps himself in check with the actual players around (unless it's Doug Flutie who must have drilled his wife or something) and on this Forum where folks obsessed with him start these threads. Ignore him and the rest of his ilk. What deep insight do they provide? None.

Re: And now..batting for Wrong Borges...Mike Felger!!!

It really is pathetic how some writers in this town feel as if they need to be anti Patriot and anti Patriot fan in order to gain ratings.

What ratings ?

Seriously... look it up, the guy's radio show does NOT even show up in the ratings book... 0.0 and has been for over a year now. That station is on the verge of folding all of it's local programming because Felger has made people tune out and now he's just mailing it in, more concerned about his Comcast job than putting together a quality radio program.

Re: And now..batting for Wrong Borges...Mike Felger!!!

I have said in other threads that I like his stuff and his radio show. He does say some things that go against what a Pats fan wants to hear. Nobody wants to hear that we can't afford all these guys. Nobody wants to hear that Dillon was a selfish SOB who the rest of the locker room couldn't stand. But these things may be true, and I don't think that there is anything wrong with writing about them.

I think Felger wants the Pats to succeed, just as he wants his home town team, the Packers, to succeed. But just as he has a hard time stomaching Bret Favre, he has a real problem with some of the yahoos who think the Pats are always perfect in everything they do.

The Patriots franchise is human - they make mistakes. It's OK to admit this while still being a fan.

Hell - the very foundation of the Patriots was built on a series of HUGE mistakes!

As for Borges - he wished nothing but the worst for this team and specifically it's head coach. Never has the Boston sports world seen a more loathsome individual and hopefully we will never again.

Utter and complete nonsense.

Yeah, he's not negative, he's just not a yahoo.

I know that's the BS spin he likes to put on it when people call him to the carpet about it, but it's pure nonsense. This week he spent more than 3 hours giggling and laughing about Ron Jaworski's comments about Moss dogging it, claiming 'he told you so' and openly mocking how much homers Patriots fans were/are for believing it wouldn't happen; without offering a single bit of analysis on Jaworski's theory or the game/plays he watched. Yeah, that's just being honest, right ?

He's a squeeky wheel that does nothing but make noise, a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian, he doesn't care if you like it or agree with it, or if it's even factually accurate or fair... he just wants you to listen/read/watch it. Hell, they run promos on that station saying as much. He'll throw things out there that he knows not to be true just to elicit a reaction from his audience.

We're seeing an individual who is just as loathsome as Borges... but apparently he's charmed you into thinking differently.

And oh yeah, he doesn't consider Borges loathsome at all... if you ask him he'll tell you Borges was a good writer who got a raw deal and paid the price because he 'doesn't drink the Patriots Kool-Aid'. But that's just more of him being his honest self, right ?

What book are you talking about?
Link?
All I see is the 12+ for the Station & WAMG does show up in the fall and winter
Books.
WAMGs lack of ratings has far more to do with their lousy signal than Felger

Re: And now..batting for Wrong Borges...Mike Felger!!!

I have a mixed opinion on Felger. On one hand, he is an agenda driven idiot who's almost never right about anything. On the other hand, his confrontational and aggressive personality does make for entertaining TV. He also has a trainwreck component that is fantastic. Felger's two defining moments are when he trashed the Dillon and Moss trades when they first happened. He knows he was completely wrong, and is insecure enough that he'll jump all over those two over the smallest things, desperatley trying to cover his ass. It's hilariously pathetic to anyone who can see what's going on.

One other amusing thing about Felger is his fixation on excrement. It's really difficult for him to make a point without referencing feces or urine. Seeing a grown man who is a public figure caught in an 8 year old anal stage is pretty bizarre.

Felger's other quirk was his deep hatred for Flutie. Burton (no deep thinker himself) called Felgie on it and embarrased him about it.

WAMG shows up in the general 12+ numbers (all day-parts) because Mike and Mike get decent ratings in the morning.

Since Felger's show moved from 4-7 to 3-6, the minimal numbers he had (0.7 - 1.1) have completely disappeared.

Speaking from personal experience, radio and tv stations don't sell ads based on 12+ numbers, they sell and market based on their specific target demographic. WAMG's target demo is men 25+, and to a lesser degree, persons 25+, and their local programming is getting clobbered. That's why their local programming is about to fold, or suffer some pretty large cutbacks. Goodbye Felger, goodbye Patriots Friday, etc. All Kevin Winter/Intern radio, all the time.

As for the lousy signal... an old excuse I don't buy completely. AMG signal is fine inside most of 128 and has a better signal west and southwest of Boston than WEEI does... that should 'net them something more than 0.0

You surely have read a lot of PG Wodehouse, haven't you? Nice choice of amusing phrases!

What is interesting is that he is the equivalent of some Wisconsin talk show host who at the time of Green Bay Lombardi dynasty would have gone completely aginst him and that Packer team. If you see it in those terms you see what an idiot he really is..and if one confronts him on that one would see him suirm and squeal about the GREAT Packers.
He needs to go back to GB..get out of here..he is incredibly pathetic..his comments about Colvin and Moss and such...I really do not listen all that much..but the FACT that he is the one for Patriots Friday to me is totally appalling...I hope one of teh days he gets what is coming to him..a one way trip OUT of Boston..And as far as excrement goes..maybe he should be fluged out with that.

Re: And now..batting for Wrong Borges...Mike Felger!!!

Someday, they will realize (as Reiss, Young, Pires, etc have) that what will increase their following and gain them ratings is what really matters to the fans of New England and fans of the NFL - in a word, that would be FOOTBALL. Imagine that, we want to read about, hear about, see and talk about the game itself, the strategies, rules, competition, rivalries, anaysis of the games, player interviews about the games etc etc.

One notable trait of almost all the media is that they have a lot of fear of being seen by their peers as fan-like or "yahoos." Mike Reiss is a lot better than hacks like Felger or Tomase, as he doesn't feel the need to play the brutal "edgy contrarian" role to get attention. At the same time, he's often understated the Pats success this year, such as declaring they would lose to the Colts weeks before the game, or making silly predictions like the Pats beating the Bills by a touchdown. It would be refreshing for the media to just think logically and make good observations without being afraid of how they're viewed, but that's obviously too much to ask.
