I don’t think PFF is the end all be all but stats aren’t always either, it is more about a reference point for me. I don’t think they’re meaningless anything measurable usually has some value whether it be small or large.
It is totally meaningless, especially with the types of stats you posted.
They have non-football background people watching a TV feed and deciding who was responisible for what.
It is, literrally, as bad as it gets.

Troy is more a Rodney Harrison type player who patrols freely and enforces. McCourty is more in the mold of an Ed Reed – stronger in coverage and focuses on making plays on the ball rather than leveling receivers.

And if there is anyone I want McCourty to model his game after it is Ed Reed.

If McCourty started to model is game after him and whiffed like some of the times Polamalu has throughout his career, you'd probably the first one on here making a negative thread about McCourty.

You can post all the highlight videos of Polamalu's 11 year career you want. But how about we wait for McCourty to play 11 seasons as a safety and then we can compare highlight videos.

Not even mentioning how Polamalu has played saftey since college. McCourty just became one not even a season ago.

I would prefer to have a smart playmaker like McCourty than a player who is going to be constantly injured or getting fined because he trolls around try to lay everybody out.

Troy Polamalu is a thug, and a **** human being - YouTube

I would like McCourty to continue to create his own game and not follow some mold. If he stays relatively healthy, someday McCourty may be the standard by which we measure.

That’s your opinion which you’re entitled to, I disagree I think that PFF can be used as a reference point If they were in fact what you feel they likely would not be used by writers and other media members consistently over the last several years, they must hold some weight or the site would have shut down by now.

It is not really something worthy of debating or even discussing, it’s a site that can breakdown players in a different fashion than ESPN, etc. I don’t put too much stock in it as I said but I wouldn’t label it worthless that’s all I am saying.

If someone is assuming safeties have the same responsibilities defending as drunk frat kids playing a pickup game on the quad he's obviously trolling. Don't feed into it. McCourty is currently the best free safety in the league.

Dennard is a top 32 corner.

I was going to say top 64, because he clearly belongs as a starter, but hasn't played enough yet to confidently slot him in the 64.

" McCourty is currently the best free safety in the league." This is trollING.

Yeah, I'd say thats totally fair but when Talib was healthy he defended a whole bunch of passes and when Talib went down teams stopped throwing at him. When they do, he typically makes a play. That's worth a lot in my mind.

Good point.

Its actually pretty widely agreed upon.

what about Earl thomas?
Lets call them a tossup.
How does that = saying McCourty is the best FS in the NFL is trolling which is your statement.

what about Earl thomas?

He's certainly in the conversation, as is Eric Weddle. Having said that, I'll take McCourty's knowledge of football and ability to quarterback the secondary. The value of those traits in a free safety cannot be understated.

First one is questionable.
There is no way in the world you can call the other 2 questionable in any way, unless you believe hitting hard doesn't belong in the NFL.

I actually like to see some big hits, the commissioner doesn’t and it also increase the chance of injury so that is why in this NFL I prefer the type of safety McCourty is over someone like Polamalu. That’s my only point here, nothing more.
