This sounds like a figment of your imagination, and not like an actual analysis of what's transpired on the field this season.

Devin McCourty is probably playing better than any safety in the NFL right now, his presence at safety has completely changed this defense. I do not agree with your post at all.

trolls are trolling

More like alternate reality. What league is he watching?

Explain to me WTF dmc is doing here and on jericho's other touchdowns

I wasn't questioning dmc's skill on the field. i just wish he would help out corners every once in a while.

That's Arrington that got burned on that play. McCourty is the "spy" keeping Roethlisberger in the pocket. Belichick was heard repeatedly on the miked up tape telling the defense to keep Roethlisberger in the pocket and not let him extend plays by running to the outside.

The Pats were in a dime on that play, and my guess is McCourty's job was to step up in the rushing lane to guard against a draw or screen, and then draw a bead on Roethlisberger if he was looking down field.

Here's the Patriots roster with their uniform numbers to help you figure out who is doing what on replays: http://www.patriots.com/team/roster.html

I know what number he is...I was questioning his coverage.

It's hard to know for sure if you don't know what was called, but it looks like man coverage. I think McCourty was supposed to cover Heath Miller, #83. Miller stayed in to block.

On the play that Arrington got beat? McCourty is playing LB.

And why are you posting a picture of Brown's touchdown? To try and show McCourty wasn't there?

Did you see where he was on the field pre-snap on that play?

In his prime Ed Reed couldn't have gotten over there in time to make a play.

You guys may be overrating dmc as a safety the same way we all did when he played corner.

They were playing 1 deep safety with man coverage, Gregory was the deep safety on that play and Arrington got beat 1on1 in the slot by Cotchery. McCourty was the QB spy and the help on Bell out of the backfield who was actually having a very good game receiving out of the backfield. The player at fault is Arrington here, if you wanted to blame any safety for not providing help it would be Gregory though since he had the deep assignment, in my opinion Gregory did the right thing helping Logan Ryan cover Sanders on the outside because our $4 mil a year slot corner Arrington should be able to hand Cotchery 1on1 without issue in my opinion anyway.

Nope not all.

Maybe if you actually watched the plays you are complaining about, you'd see McCourty is not to blame.

Cotchery's 3 TDs are on Arrington, Ryan and Spikes. Not McCourty. Weird how all of the TDs that the Steelers got were nowhere near where McCourty was playing.

Brown's TD- Right side of the field, McCourty was on the left side.
Cotchtery's TDs- 1st one-McCourty was basically a LB on the play, 2nd one- McCourty was on Heath Miller, 3rd one- McCourty on the left side of the field in the end zone, Cotchery caught it basically a yard or two from the line of srimmage on the right side while shedding Spikes in the process.

Yep but let's complain about McCourty on those.

If that is the case we are not the only ones overrating him…

Devin McCourty?s move to safety has paid off for Patriots - Sports - The Boston Globe

Outside of a very difficult 2011 McCourty actually did play really well at CB in his career, people forget that as a rookie he played in a zone scheme and in 2011 he switched to a man scheme and it was the lockout year so he didn’t even have an offseason. If you look at the Patriots defense since 2011 with McCourty at safety his impact is unparalleled.

My point is he should be helping corners who get beat.

I know everyone here dislikes polumanu, but i like how he tried assist a corner on that amendola touchdown.....brady just outsmarted him.

That's how harrison used to play.

Did you watch the game? I am not trying to sound like a **** here but that was probably Polamalu worst game in his career he was getting abused like his name was Sergio Brown out there last Sunday.

Here is a quote out of Pittsburg about how Troy has declined over the past 3 seasons and a few other articles on his play being poor.

After a game in which both safeties struggled, some people have been saying that Troy Polamalu has lost a step and has been in decline for the past three or four years. However, Clark says he thinks Polamalu is being asked to do more things this year like play linebacker.

Brady has ALWAYS done that to polamalu, i just like that for a safety to play like he does.

Troy is a great safety against every other qb.

He really isn’t anymore he was always overrated in my opinion but overall a very good player, now he is not very good at all.

Pro Football Focus is garbage. Those stats are meaningless whether they are positive or negative.

If your idea of good safety play is to get duped by the QB looking you off, abandoning your zone, and getting burned for a TD, then I'm glad you don't like McCourty.
The play you reference was a worse job than McCourty has done on any single play this season.
That you consider a horrendous play proof of what you are looking for tells me how to view you opinion.
Perhaps you should post less and listen more so you can learn about the game.

I don’t think PFF is the end all be all but stats aren’t always either, it is more about a reference point for me. I don’t think they’re meaningless anything measurable usually has some value whether it be small or large.

Maybe he did lose a step, but i still like the way he plays

If McCourty started to model is game after him and whiffed like some of the times Polamalu has throughout his career, you'd probably the first one on here making a negative thread about McCourty.

You can post all the highlight videos of Polamalu's 11 year career you want. But how about we wait for McCourty to play 11 seasons as a safety and then we can compare highlight videos.

Not even mentioning how Polamalu has played saftey since college. McCourty just became one not even a season ago.
