AFCE Race & Draft Pick Outlook

I want the Jets to do as bad as possible this year.

They're a team that highly relies on swagger and confidence, which they won't have a lot of with a losing season.

Cripes, who cares about the exact draft position of the jags pick?

A big part of being a Pats fan is watching the Jets crash and burn annually. Why would I want to deny myself that enjoyment?

This Jets-Jags matchup is a no-lose situation. No point rooting one way or the other, imo. Either the Jets lose and we inch that much closer to the initial goal. Or the Jags lose, and they inch that much closer to TN in the draft. I'll take either. But the Jets arent done losing. Theyll lose atleast 3 or 4 more games, imo. We might lose 2. Theyll end up nowhere near us in the standings.

Of course we could. And if we can't beat the Jets at home in Foxboro it simply means that this 2009 Patriots team is not a very good team. A team that can't beat the Colts AND can't beat the Jets in any game is NOT going to kick ass post season, should they somehow get there despite the losses.

Excellent point. I think we root for the jets this weekend, knowing that the Patriots will beat, or should beat, jersey when they come to Foxboro. Nothing to fear, AFCE-wise.

The is a word that describes wanting your divisional rival to win and have a chance at the division so that you can beat them and take the division. That word is "arrogance".

Bingo! We have a winner!

Bleep the Jets and their fans. May they continue to pogo up and down geting their pathetic hopes up for a playoff berth only to have them dashed.

It's simple. If the Patriots can't beat the Jets, then by definition, they're not a very good team. You are what you are.

I do understand your position.

However, I want us to win the division, even with losses to the colts and the jets. Sure, I prefer winning 13 or 14 games, but the ciritical thing for me is to get to the second season. I agree that losing to the jets would mean that we aren't a great team at the moment. First, we don't need to be a great team to win a Super Bowl. Second, I expect us to better by playoff time.

I think MOST of us look at all matchups of other teams with an eye as to how it helps of our divisonand playoff chances. I do understand that many think that the division should just be assumed, and if we don't win the division we don't deserve to be in the playoffs, and we wouldn't go far anyway. These are fans who have already forgotten the 2001 season. These fans arrogantly focus on the first round bye; or worse, on next year's draft choices.

just my 2 cents.

We were a .500 team when we lost to the greatest show on turf in the regular season in 2001. Oddly, that meant nothing in the post season.

I want the Jets to lose. Draft pick positions are not important enough to want our closest divisional rivals to win a game.

People get far too carried away with these draft picks.

It's only a 2nd rounder. It's going to be much more fun and meaningful to chase the Raiders 1st rounder next year. I think you'll be plenty happy seeing a Jets loss. Especially if they get creamed. May Sanchries will get a 20k fine for bringing a hot dog onto the field.

The team had been on a 5-2 run prior to the Rams game, following an 0-2 start. Also, they were a 5-4 team, not a .500 team.

I can't root for the Jets. I just can't. But if they do win, I suppose I can take consolation in the CHANCE at having a slightly higher draft pick.

I will never root for the jets unless they play the colts, so jags all the way. I'll also root for the Titans to spank the phins but hopw they finish 3-13

besides, who cares where the 2nd round picks are slotted, the team could always find a way to trade up like they did last year

This isn't 2001 redux. Were the Pats to lose to BOTH the Colts and the Jets as I'd said, that's prima facie evidence that the 2009 squad really isn't very good.
What you are effectively saying is, if we can't have a dominant regular season we shouldn't bother.

Which is ridiculous and makes one wonder what league you've been watching. Remember the Steelers in 2005? Or even the Pats in 2001.

Suppose Brady goes down in the first half Sunday, with a minor injury which keeps him out the rest of the game and the Jets game but he's then back good as new. We could lose the division to the Jets and miss the playoffs even though at seasons end we would probably be better than them.

Of course there are myriad flukey things that could happen, such as the Brady example. I'm not wishing for that to happen. With 2 losses, we'd be 6-4 and we would not be a 'very good' team at that juncture. That's what I said. More than once. Nothing about dominance. I'm not that fluent in other languages such that I could say it differently.

Apparently, several folks think that either they or BB would rate the 2009 Pats losing the next 2 games as being a very good team. Me, I don't think so.

Sorry, I can't do it. I tried to do it last year when a playoff spot was on the line for us and I crapped out after about 20 seconds. It was just too depressing.

I'm right with you. I'll never root for the Jets.
