That’s why the overthrow mattered. The ball was too far for that hook to obviously impede him. It just prevented him getting his hand up not his forward progress. A dime dropping into his bucket would make the inability to use that hand obvious and significant. That’s why it went uncalled but probably would’ve been called for a better pass. They really did consider it uncatchable…

If you give them the ball first you know how many points you have to score. If they get a TD the entire field is 4 down territory.

The downside/ counter argument is that if you both score and it’s tied they have the ball for sudden death. (Or if neither team scores)
For that reason the team scoring 2nd usually goes for 2 in the PAT

Problem is they flag way more uncatchable ball all the time. no consistency.
