    After a horrible head to head regular season in 2017 (23-41) plus the Pats loss in the SB that would have finally seen the AFC catch up in overall SB wins in spite of the NFC's huge run from 84-96, the AFC still has a 95 game lead in head to head overall (1335-1240).

    As for 2018, even though the conferences are tied at 7 wins apiece, the NFC has had a huge home field advantage so far with 10 home games to 4. This is the breakdown so far;

    As far as overall winning records for the regular seasons, counting the first 4 season splits when we only met them in the SB, the AFC has a head-to-head record vs the NFC of 32-19-2

    An update on the AFC vs NFC

    In spite of the fact that the NFC teams have been regularly ranked higher than the AFC teams, the AFC now has a 12-8 record vs the NFC even though 12 of the 20 games have been played on NFC home fields. The AFC is 6-6 on the road and 6-2 at home.

    Another place where the NFC gets favorable treatment is in TV coverage. Of the 102 teams that will get televised nationally, 61 of those are NFC teams and only 41 are AFC teams.

    To put it another way, of the 51 games being televised, 24 are all NFC, 16 are all AFC and 13 are split games.

    NFC got a lot of hype

    Vikings, Eagles, Falcons and Packers were all expected to be dominant, along with the Saints and Rams.

    AFC was supposedly only New England, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, and maybe Los Angeles

    I used to pay more attention to the power rankings but they're so slanted toward the NFC that it's become annoying.

    The NFL.com ranking has the 4-2 Dolphins 9 spots worse than the 3-2 Bears, a team they just defeated. CBS has them 12 spots worse.

    The bias is even more striking when we look at the fact that to date the AFC is leading vs the NFC with a 13-11 record head to head in spite of playing less home games.

    This week there are 6 AFC vs NFC games.
    AFC home games;
    [email protected] (+3)
    [email protected] (off)
    [email protected] (-2.5)
    NFC home games;
    [email protected] (+1.5)

    Chicago does have some weapons and a pretty strong defense. If I were a bettor I'd stay clear of the game.

    The only time I was sure of any bet was the over for the [email protected] game last week, but I didn't want to get back into betting.

    The end of the first half score would have made the halftime feel twice as long. :D

    Since the unfortunately unforgettable 1985 Super Bowl rout, the Patriots are 7-1 versus the Bears, with the last two Patriot victories being absolute beatdowns by scores of 51-23 (2014) and 36-7 (2010). Belichick and Brady have their number.

    In spite of that 13 game streak the AFC is still only down by two SB wins overall. Unfortunately, the Pats had a chance to get the AFC even last year and didn't.

    In all-time overall head to head wins the AFC is still way ahead vs the NFC by close to a hundred wins, so we have that going for us.

    Since the merger, the AFC has been the dominant conference.

    Patriots-denigration is aided by their lack of a playoff win in the 70's, which of course does not take into account the utter superiority of the conference they played in, Ben Dreith and Jack Tatum.

    I have always considered the NFC Super Bowl winning streak, which began in 1985, only in the context that is coincident with the escalation of steroid use.

    BTW, it also coincided with former AFL ownerships turning to the dark side NFL empire (Jackasses, Jetes)

    The AFC has more good teams but the NFC likely had the 2 best teams in the nfl this year.

    Looking outside of the currently projected first round bye teams it's hard to find a spot where the NFC is better going by the current rank of the teams in each confrence.

    I guess it all depends of how the teams are being ranked. The "experts" seem to favor the NFC, especially the NFCE. What I like to do is rank the teams by record first and break ties by using the opponents winning %.
