Adam Butler

Take back what I said about Adam Butler thought he was another Preseason Star but regular season dud.

Continues to flash a couple times each game. Loving the energy too.

Vanderdoes was drafted at #88 and has played about 50% of the defensive snaps for OAK.

Ledbetter was drafted at #205 and has played about 40% of the defensive snaps for DET.

Butler has played about 38% of the defensive snaps for the Pats.

Butler quietly climbing to #1 (on some 30% playing time)
Officially another remarkable Butler story at Foxboro

When you consider the lack of draft picks the Pats had, and the fact they got this kid for nothing, it is an amazing pick up. Like the Bogdan said, inside pass rush is a PREMIUM asset, and the fact that this kid has the best pass rushing stats of any rookie DT so far, is pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to see his progress over the next few years.

A LOT of players flash at this level. The ones that make impacts are the ones that continue to grow and get better. For that, he couldn't have come to a better place.

When can we go after Bud Dupree and Nate Orchard my draft binkies they have to be free agents soon.

Dupree is under contract through 2018. Thru 2019, if the Steelers pick up his 5th-year option (likely).

Orchard started in CLE as a 3-4 OLB in his rookie season (2015) under Jim O'Neil. He injured an ankle during week-3 last season and sat the rest of the way (though was not IR'd). This season, he's been a rotational DE in the (new) 4-3 under Gregg Williams. His snap counts have been lower than they were his rookie season, as have his stats.

He's under contract to CLE thru 2018, but ... well ... it's Cleveland, so who the eff knows what they'll do with him this off-season?

With another 15 “top 10“ rookies flooding their roster next year (not to mention FA extravaganza) . you better send your fishermen to their exit door..

With Dorsey apparently in "house-cleaning" mode, the fishermen should probably carry large creels.

Orchard might not be a bad get, if Dorsey's putting him in the queue. Seems unlikely to me that they'd cut him outright; more likely available in trade.

Orchard is 6032 and was reasonably athletic coming out of college at 250# (decent size/wgt for an OLB in the Pats schemes). He's currently listed on the CLE roster at 270+, though.

OTOH, Dorsey could fire Jackson and his staff, and then the new guy brings in a DC who switches back to the 3-4, which maybe helps Orchard stick there.

OR ... they could fire Jackson and promoted Williams from DC to HC which would likely result in a continuation of the 4-3.

Belichick should be standing there with his arms out playing with arms wide open on a boom box as they all walk out the door.

Has Butler been that good or is this just another Joe Vellano/Chris Jones 2013 situation?

We'll find out next year. I'd be pretty psyched with a 2013 Chris Jones season right now.

In terms of being a pure athlete, Butler is a clear notch above these two guys.

He has some elusiveness, nose to come to the other side of line you can't teach. It will be on him next summer. Its a deep and much stronger DL draft class so he might get some strong competition. BB seems to really like him though .

How many of those numbers were built through the first 8 games vs the last 6, especially when considering the possibility of his hitting the rookie wall?

Not playing enough to hit rookie wall. He's still hitting the right walls given the opportunity. With Flowers (Brown) returning Id guess he's back to 3rd down situational piece..

2 tackles, 1 hurry, 1 run stop @BUF on 20 snaps.
