I don't get that.. They just dumped Sanders, Meriweather and Butler, but they are looking for DB help???

Why are some ppl confused by this?

Meriweather sucked at coverage.

Butler SUCKED at coverage

Sanders was Average at coverage and was declining in run support.

Why are people confused? You dont keep crap around just because you need bodies. you dump and try to get something better.

"helpful" DBs... it makes sense...

On a scale from 1-10, they have a bunch of 5s and 6s after cutting a bunch of 4s, and they want to add an 8.

Only true if you have someone better in mind - which I hope they do
If they used some of their cap space and got a stud safety I'd be all for it. But the people on the roster right now, and any potential free agents that are currently out there aren't looking any better.

It not the chicken and egg debate.

Clearly BB did not cut these guys because he thought they were the solution to the problem. They were they problem or at least part of it.

I dont neccesarrily think this means they are looking for DB help it means they feel the guys they chose are better than the ones they released or at least better for the roles they will/were going to preform. Of course they are always looking to improve in all areas and on that not you could say they are looking for help everywhere.

My opinion is simple the skill of Bodden, McCourty, and Chung will determine the success of the secondary and I think it will be pretty damn good.

Yea no chit, of course they need DB help, and they better get it quick! They beef the D-Line to help against the run and put pressure, if you are going to force teams to pass, you better have some talent back there.
We shall see what we shall see.

This Caplan guy needs to be awarded the Noble Peace Prize for his work on this one.

So let me get this right......... Adam Caplin, who has never, ever, and I mean ever, broke anything specific about the Patriots in the past, now is coming forward to "report" that the Patriots are looking for DB help.

Seriously folks, we just released 3 DB's in the last couple weeks, and kept people that most people in the NFL don't know, or are not particularly familiar with. This is just another mediate taking a wild azz guess as to what BB is doing. It might be true, but then again, it's just as likely BB is completely content with what he now has too.

Just cuz you read it on the internet. Doesn't make it true. File this under another waste of an acre on the internet real estate market.

Darren Sharper to sign with Patriots????

Darren Sharper to sign with Patriots????

After week 1. I think we sign him and Crumpler back. Because there wasn't an off-season to monitor these vets. BB probably leery whether they can make it thru the season or not. Doesn't want to guarantee their contract after 1 game.

What makes you think the changes on the D line help against the run? This isn't a run first league and it hasn't been in some time. This D line is for hitting/hurrying the passer, which puts LESS pressure on the DB, not more.

For the other guy that hoped BB has a plan. The answer is yes.

If you think that having Wilfork Haynesworth and Carter as the starting D-line has nothing to do with stopping the run, then you know nothing about the 3-4 2-gap Defense that Belichick has been running every year here since 2003..

How many big plays were a direct result of one of those guys blowing an assignment or just not being able to cover a reciever properly and make a play on the ball? All it takes is one guy to miss his assignment and be out of position for the other team to make a big play.
Im sure he has a couple guys in mind that can perform at a level higher than the guys he cut, who they are remains to be seen.

If I had to make a guess I would say:

Sanders cut due to salary and declining performance.
Merriweather cut due to numerous missed assignments and freelancing.
Butler cut due to inability to cover a fire hydrant.

It MAY have something to do with the fact that he retweeted earlier that Joselio Hanson had offers from five different teams. He may be speculating that one of those teams is the Patriots. Maybe he heard some whispers as he does have links with the eagles.

It is all just speculation. Especially on my part!

Which team doesn't want more CBs? good luck finding one now unless Earthwind Moreland can take time off from the Home Depot.

or trade for Asante Samuel
