A Toast to Bill Belichick

I'll believe it when I see it, but if this is indeed the end, I'm glad I got to witness this era, even if from afar.

If it's time for the Pats to become just another one of the 32, so be it. I've gotten closure on my own peculiar reasons for becoming a fan in the first place, so I'm okay with whatever happens going forward (I admit I don't deal well with endings at all, but six titles makes it easier than it would have otherwise been; being spoiled is the best of all possible counterweights).

Thank you Mr. Belichick. We'll never see (and for some, deserve) your like again...

Wonder if thre will be applause/ovation for Bill as he leaves the field tomorrow?

He deserves it!!

It would be weird to look at a NE sideline without Bill Belichick on it.

One of his great pressers was "on to Cincinnati." They were 2-2 and the knives were out. After that statement, they lost one game (GB in Nov 2014) in the next 14 months.

Note: They played the backups against Buffalo to finish the 14 campaign. One seed was locked up already. I don't count that as a legitimate NFL loss.

Well said. As the cycle of life goes, once an adult twice a baby. We have come full circle with the organization and Bill more likely to have a mutual parting. It took a gracious owner and lifetime new Englander to identify the genius in Bill. Bill then played a part in helping create the best 2 decade run in any modern sport. I'm appreciative of Bill for he dedicated his life to his passion. Thanks coach!

I thought we were going to loose that superbowl.. I'd give up that one to get the 08 superbowl though.. but agree that feeling was unreal!! Watching our team win and then fighting a major snow storm the next day.. LOL
Cassell fan? lol

BB should move on to some type of advisory position where he would be available to advise and indirectly support the new coaching staff. He should forever be revered, but given a break from his endless days he has spent with this team.
To let him walk would be an injustice to both the Patriots and to BB.

RK owned the team before Bill, he'll own if after. The run was just legendary never ever to be replicated in sports period! Bill and Brady together created something that we have a lifetime of memories with.

NFL is a business there is no loyalty no matter how much success!
Parcells was correct.

What happened before regarding success is irrelevant. You're not winning now. BB is a direct disciple of Parcells. The teams are built the same.

No Brady, no rings
No BB no Brady either, not sure if you remember the brouhaha after Bledsoe got over his injury about BB's alleged promise to give the starting QB position back to him. Most sports scribes and many fans were upset about this move. Consider if he kept that alleged promise to give that starting QB position back to Bledsoe, Pats history may have been quite different.

The feeling after that Butler pick will never be replicated. The most unreal sports moment.
Who had the defense practice that exact Seahawks play?

Brian Billick

I lost count of how many times it would be Pats offense 4th and 2 and I would go for it, but BB punts. Then the other team gets the ball and commits a turnover and the Pats get the ball back with better field position.

I sincerely hope not, but if it comes to fruition, he’s definitely top 2-3 all time IMHO. MASTERFUL work! It will never be accomplished in sports again.

Exactly right ??. Owners care about $$$ they have to keep the season ticket holder and most definitely sponsors happy..

Without a doubt. No denying that. However it was Grier who selected Brady not Bill. Bill of course is responsible for challenging Brady and bringing the best out of him. These two men together were meant to co-exist. Bill and Brady together in New England. Bill has said before coaches loose the game and players win it.

Grier? That's a new one what's the logic on that?

The reality that this is most likely the last game BB coaches in New England is pretty heavy as far as I'm concerned. This is not a thread about whether he should stay or go (I think it's time to move on), but a thread for us all to raise a glass in acknowledgement of what an amazing era of football he fostered in New England.

Thanks for the memories, coach.
Best coach of all time. It’s sad to see him go, and hope he lands with a team that is loaded with talent and a QB. I’d like to see him win another Super Bowl somewhere if not with us.

That's a massive understatement of Belichick's influence on Brady's career. On any other team with a highly paid star QB, Brady would have never gotten past backup until the retirement of said star. He might have emerged somewhere after leaving as a FA in his 5th year, and maybe even won a SB somewhere, but he'd not be anywhere near the GOAT conversations if Belichick hadn't seen something and pushed back against massive pressure to keep Bledsoe in place for the 2001 playoff run and beyond.
