What IS elite speed then? I was of the impression that 4.5 and under was…not that it truly matters…a friend wants to know…
Depends on mass (size).

If 6’5” 240 pound Calvin Johnson attends the combine and runs a 4.4 flat… that’s elite. That’s “WTF a TE/LB sized guy just ran a 4.4” type speed.

If a 5’10 180 pound guy attends the combine and runs a 4.4 forty… that’s still good.

Anything in the 4.3 speed is elite, anything in the 4.2 speed is uniquely fast.

Speed in four directions is usually more important than speed in one.

But at the end of the day football smarts and understanding football is the only thing that can make measurables meaningful… you need both.

What’s the one thing all prospects have in common?

Mass, they all weigh something. That’s the common denominator… size.

Baker is 6'1" tall. That is not really tall. I am taller. Hollins is 6'4" tall, that is tall. I do not know anyone that thinks 6'1" is really tall.

Yeah, but he has really long arms, which make him much taller. Ask anyone, it’s true. It also makes him faster than a cheetah.

If you were a height challenged person, you wouldn't say that. It's really tall to me.

True, but Baker is really tall, so his 4.54 speed is actually faster than William's 4.0 speed, because he’s covering so much more ground with his really long legs. He also has really long arms, so they can move him to offensive tackle if he fails at receiver. And the fact that he can’t catch anything shouldn’t be held against him at WR, because he still covers a lot of ground and has long arms.
Love it Huck

Actually taller guys are slower than shorter guts with the same 40 times.
Be ause taller guys almost always take longer to accelerate to top speed.
Shorter guys are more explosive.
Edelman reached top speed in a blink of an eye- that's one of the reasons he was always open. Long striders ingeneral don't make good football players especially wrs.
Randy Moss was an exception to this for several reasons, including that he was a football genius. But it's not true for most taller(6'3" and up) wrs.
40 times are a stupid measurement for the nfl since they rarely come into play.
A 20 yd dash makes much more sense.
There's a reason the vast majority of great nfl wrs were 6'2" and under.

Huckleberry Finn was not being serious.

Welcome to the tall club. I'm about 6'3".

The Bills are going to be so pissed when Diggs leaves one of their DB's in the dust and is a big reason why the Pats beat them this season.
Big time. Thier secondary is suspect to begin with. Diggs is going to be huge for Drake, if we got a good 2 seasons out of the Drake/Diggs connection that's a huge gain for the organization.

We've been longing as fans for a guy who can command teams best CBs. We now have that again. Williams, Bourne, pop, Boutte will feast on 2nd and 3rd DBs.

@Zuma @TheRainMaker @signbabybrady

Boys, I really, really feel great about this years team. I feel like we are going to be a well coach team all around and give teams problems each week.

We are talking about really tall in the NFL. 6'1" is not really tall in the NFL. Average height in the NFL has nothing to do with the general population.

It is the height in the NFL, not the general population. Baker's relative height, like "really tall", is realtive to the other NFL players' average. 6'1" is not really tall in the NFL.

Elite speed for a WR is generally considered to be 4.40 or lower 40 yard sprint. Ideally below 4.40 or 4.3x.
Sure, but really speed is an overrated aspect when talking about WR's because there is so much more that goes into it. There are several aspects of speed, long speed, short speed, acceleration.

Using the above info from the combine (in clothing that makes them the most aerodynamic as possible). Booty is the fastest right because he reached the top speed during the 40 or is it Baker who had the fastest MPH at 10yds and 30yds? But maybe its Polk who had the quickest acceleration and best 10yd time.

Just info to ponder

Fixed it, sorry about that formatting fiasco
