Per NFLN and Mike Lombardi.

You go Matt! :woohoo:

Glad to see this guy who worked hard, kept his mouth shut and then went out and got it done when he was so sorely needed get a big reward.

I'm sorry to be so dense, I haven't heard specifics yet.

Is is point blank--6 yrs, 36 mill. so 6 mill x 6 yrs?

or is it 36 million guaranteed, and a real big contract, like 50-60 or something?

Do you think this might be an attempt to tweak Detroit? You know, "you sure you made the right decision?"

It sounds like the latter.

Breaking: Chiefs, Cassel Agree To Six-Year Deal

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with quarterback Matt Cassel on a six-year contract extension with $36 million guaranteed, a league source close to the situation has just informed me.

Apparently he won that purported open QB competition in the first OTA...

It's just too bad Pioli can't do what he'd really like to do with that #3, turn it into a couple of day 1 picks.

Its good that Matt has his contract. Not only that, it frees up a ton of money for KC to do what BB did in 2000. Pick up a bunch of scraps and let TC sort them out... Not to mention contracts for guys who deserve them.

Not as much as you might think—remember the 30% rule puts limits on his 2009 salary, and they can only prorate 2009 signing bonuses over 5 years.

Oh to be 6'5" ... intelligent and mobile ...

Hehe, I totally relate. I'm a shade under 5'8, so I doubt I'll ever be a pro player, even though I play with more passion than anyone I know. Ah well, I'll have a good life anyway.

And good for Matt! I'm so happy to see him do well, especially after being so harsh on him last year. His preseason was, admittedly, horrendous. I'm humbled and impressed that he proved me wrong, and I wish him nothing but the best in KC.

They didn't need to free up much since the had $32M last week with Cassel tagged...
