What are the disadvantages of picking up a 5th year option? If it accepted, does any new money become guaranteed?

New this year, the remaining salary in year four plus the entire fifth year option become fully guaranteed upon picking up the option. Adoree Jackson, on the other hand, had his fifth year option picked up last offseason but was released yesterday because it wasn't guaranteed. That won't happen anymore.

Then, we need to consider adding 2 RB's and an OT.

I predict both Wynn and Michel do not get their options picked up. If you pick it up, then they won't worry about getting injured again. In fact, the uncertainty will put pressure on them to have their best year.

What is their deadline to pick up the option for the 5th year?

Completely agree with this. No need to pick them up.

If they were playing 15/16 games which means Sony was hitting close to 1000yd seasons and Wynn was being discussed in ProBowl/All-Pro voting then options are not being discussed but extensions are.

Wynn is a rare body type and when healthy has played well. I think his option does get picked up. Sony on the other hand with occasional flashes is replaceable and will probably be playing on another team in 2 years. Too many knee issues for me to feel comfortable paying him that much.

The 5th year option isn't that bad for both positions.

Yup.

After great years, Michel and Wynn would just sign them friendly extensions instead of free agency. NOT

If the team refuses to pick up Wynn's option and make the commitment, if Wynn has near a pro-bowl season, he will simply go somewhere else.

But the pressure would be on us too if they are angling for free agency.....

That beings said, I would pick up Wynn's, but not Michel's. Michel is a good RB, but RB's are dime a dozen....

You think they get injured on purpose? Or that it’s better for players to go out on the field worried about getting injured? Really?

It's was definitely on River's mind who eventually got cut and is a journeyman. And I'm sure after going on IR for 3 straight years, Wynn is hoping he stays healthy or he will continue to lose money. In fact, who the hell would want to sign a guy who goes on IR every year? And since RB's are a dime a dozen, you'd be foolish not to think it's on Michel's mind.

Why would you think it was definitely on his mind? how would you know that?
Of course players don’t want to be injured but the implication was they would be more likely to get hurt if they get their 5th year picked up because they would stop worrying about getting injured.
In fact it’s well accepted that the best way to get injured is to go out on the forks worried about injury.

$10 million for a starting LT in Wynn?
$4.5 for Michel?

I'd pick both options up.
