The Second Round pick signings had been stuck in neutral, but over the last few days, the signings have started... The sticking point has been the guaranteed money... so far, the first three picks in the 2nd have gotten fully guaranteed deals... the remainder of the deals have had about 85 to 90 percent of the deal guaranteed...

TreVeyon Henderson looks to be right in the middle of the breaking point for guaranteed money... The Judkins deal will be the key... but considering his legal woes, it might take longer to work out the details with that one... im sure he doesn't want his bonus/guarantees to be clawed back over already known bad behavior... browns again find themselves to be in an awkward position regarding player behavior...

be interesting to see if the Pats cave and fully guarantee Hendersons deal... i could care less if they do or don't guarantee his deal... its the difference of what, a million bucks or so? I think we should guarantee the deal... but eh, as long as he signs before camp i'm good with either...

(Update 6:55am ET 7/21 - By Ian [Trying to help @Pape out])
31 of the 32 signed... the top 8 deals (32-40) are fully guaranteed (in italics) ... will update the final 3 deals with details as they come to light - although I think Judkins might take a while to sign, probably trying to protect his contract money from the dv charges - suspecting a Brady like situation where the deal is bonus heavy so the game checks he gets docked are artificially low... though, at a certain point, he is gonna have to sign if he wants to play this year...

For the players sake, hope they can win this guaranteed money battle. It’s an absolutely brutal game, they deserve to make every dime.

Agree, although we should also note that many 2nd round picks are already millionaires from their college salaries.

agreed, considering NFL contracts have really been one sided in favor of the owners, it would be a good thing...

and really, guaranteed deals will help with keeping the cap functioning as a hard cap... no more phony baloney last year "salaries" that bloat the contract so the players get bragging rights...

This is terrific, @Pape, thank you for putting this together.

If I’m a high 2nd rounder and especially a RB, I’m holding out for fully guaranteed deal. Especially after what Cleveland and Houston were foolish enough to do.

The average career length for RB is 2.57 years in the league. The lowest by far and Obviously for a large sum of those RB’s drafted, a high chance they never see a 2nd contract. Henderson is definitely in a good position to maximize himself, especially given his abilities. Aside from being explosive and a proven play maker at the college level, he shows the best ability of all of them to pass block at NFL level. I’d bet on myself everyday and Tuesday and hold out to get fully guaranteed with that particular set of skills. Don’t hate the player. Go ask Cleveland and Houston what they were thinking?

There is more to it than that. If you guarantee salaries some players lose money. There is a cap, so for every player that is not on the roster but being paid a guaranteed salary, the amount left to pay the other players is reduced. Theoretically it also costs jobs. If you guaranteed a salary and the guy deserves to be cut, you may keep him instead of cutting him because you have to pay him any way.
You have to look at the consequence. Every dime they deserve to make comes out of another players pocket.

Jests signed Mason Taylor.

Per PFT:

Taylor was the No. 42 overall pick in this year’s draft. Wolfe notes that of the $10.46 million in Taylor’s contract, 91.3 percent of it ($9.56 million) was guaranteed. Taylor also received 60 percent of his Year 4 salary guaranteed, which is a 55 percent increase from the No. 42 pick in 2024.

@ the mods...

Traveling a bit today, thanks for updating the thread with the new signings... It's appreciated

Raiders have signed Jack Bech. Terms of deal not disclosed by PFT. Shouldn’t be long for Henderson.

Glad to see more guaranteed money for these guys. I'd like to see the NFL move more towards the models of other leagues where contracts are all guaranteed.

The league as a whole generates billions and billions of revenue. I'd like to see more and more of it go to the people who actually contribute to the game. And I understand that owners provide necessary financial structure and assume a certain level of financial risk but let's not overstate it. This isn't some risky investment for them. Owning an NFL team is the easiest decision int he world. It's basically a locked in appreciating asset to put your money into if you've already amassed billions elsewhere. Sure, at a point in time the league wasn't a money printer like it is now but today, with what it is, there's really no serious risk for them. They just pour money in and watch it grow on the backs of the labor of the players and they (the owners) take a disproportionate share of it.

I'm generally pretty fiscally conservative so I'm not some "eat the rich" guy either. But within the market of professional sports I will always support players using whatever leverage they have to their benefit over the owners pocketing more.

37 and 39 got fully guaranteed contracts, so Treveyon should be signed relatively soon.

I didn't realize it, but it looks like Judkins (pick #36) might be a non-factor in terms of the immediate part of this process after apparently getting in trouble and facing a domestic violence charge.

Thread on the signing is here:

We'll leave this one open to follow the remaining players until they're all under contract.

FYI Miguel predicted the deal would get done today, although I'm not sure if he expected the entire contract to be fully guaranteed. Either way, as usual, he was spot on.
