Yep, we can't have it both ways. We can't discredit coaches when it fits the narrative. Many players excel in the NFL with poor coaching because they just have "it". Case in point, Christian Gonzalez found a way to have an All Pro season despite the **** show. I see this excuse quite regularly on the board to defend certain players.
Yes. Coaching does matter. I'd still take great players over good coaches. Some players also do more with good coaching than others. Maye is very raw and therefore he is one of them.

The Pats haven't had good rosters or good coaching here since Brady left. Not a coincidence they were far less successful.

But you don’t get to pick good players vs good coaches because every team has good bad and mediocre players. The vast majority are average or worse. How the team is structured, and run, and how the coaching strategy fits those players together determines whether you win.
Good players with bad coaching are held back by the rest of the team while all players are elevated by good coaching, at last with regard to winning.

An individual player won’t have a huge difference in performance based upon who his coach is, but a team absolutely will.

If a player is depended on his coaching (especially the 3rd overall pick), then he is too high maintenance and not going to be the player to build your franchise around. Caleb Williams is also in that category.

Keion White is another player that tried to blame coaching last season for his no show after week 2. His excuse was absolutely ridiculous and he's now a rotational guy.

Maye shouldn't always be someone reliant on his coaching - the label for that is system QB and we ought to expect a lot higher for the #3 overall pick. But he is still very raw and it shows. He doesn't know what to do with his physical tools yet. The coaches need to be the ones to figure out how to make the most of them and it's apparent that last season's fiasco did nothing to move him forward.

Yes that is really disappointing re White... I thought the Pats found a good one with White but it doesn't seem that way now.

I think you all need to back off a bit on the Sam bashing. …… (In this thread)

I detest his perennial dystopic view as much as the rest of you. But IN THIS THREAD ; he has made exactly 0 Replies.

His OP is 98% quote from someone else & from 2 years ago. He bolded comments he thought applicable and then left the thread for discussion……….just MAYBE it’s a new leaf.

Sure, and the next time we have a chance to draft a great QB we should do so.

A lot of fans root for players when their team drafts them, others are in a mission to tear them down. Some people just like to wallow in failure and hope to find it everywhere they look.
Why anyone would choose a hobby that forces them to search out a way to be miserable about it is beyond me.
Others call it like they see it.

I like to piss off my fellow Patfans
I do not like them Sam I Am

didnt care for the pick, then when he played he gave me some hope, give him a few more games and we will know the real deal, wont take long.
I think it might take a few more seasons before the jury comes back in for the Drake verdict.
