Everyone touting for McCarthy over Daniels/Maye learned absolutely zero from the Mac Jones experience. Absolutely nothing.

Totally different players. Go back and look at my post history- I didn’t want Jones unless it was in the 3rd round.

The issues with sideline throws annoyed me the most about mac although he struggled to the right side
I don’t know jjm is very risky at 3 but will get overdrafted due to potential and positional value

I can see 4 qbs in the top 6 easily
There are a lot of qb needy teams in the top 6 and also quit a few teams around 9-14
I wouldn’t be mad with any of the top 4 qbs at 3 at this point

JJ is clearly behind the top 3 currently but that's not to say that he couldn't end up better than them.

He just hasn't had the experience that the top 3 have and is a longer term prospect.

He's been overhyped and will go earlier than he probably should because, well he's a qb basically, but imo he's still a top prospect.

Bo Nix has enormous hands. 10 1/8. Same as Josh Allen. His combine has been fantastic. Was expecting ok, but he outdid expectations. His corner deep throw was badass and I wasn’t expecting him to be right behind McCarthy in velocity. He did ok for himself. Good to see.

Anyway I really like Daniels. Going back to his ASU days he tossed beautiful deep passes. He's very good targeting the boundary in general for fades, back shoulder, go etc. Good accuracy obviously and has an arm. Arm isnt special but its more than good enough. Velocity and strength could improve but hes got enough strength. Throws away from the leverage, protects his ball but gives his guy a chance to make a play.

I wanted to point this out specifically in a touch up /extension on Daniels. A lot of the qualities we've seen recently have been there. There are inconsistencies here too, mostly when he's pressured or feels pressured. He does get antsy too quick at times. His arm isn't great at all. He has trouble dialing real gas downfield but his anticipation and touch are very good. Good anticipation against zone.


His rushing abilities are outstanding. He's not Lamar or AR15 but he's electric. Speed quickness vision in the open field. He leaves his feet too easy and takes too many big hits but he's a nightmare for defenses. He doesn't have the elusiveness you want but clearly a ultra talented runner. You almost have to play some type of 2hi/shell over the top but that'll inevitably leave lanes for him to rush. Balty never accomplished it bc they always end up hurt but pair him with a top tier back (Robinson, Stevenson etc) and "good luck" (Marco from Taken voice) He led power 5 in yards per rush and pass. So between his deep ball and rushing attack
he's already quite the handful in terms of how you would want to prepare for him.

Very good on the move with rollouts. Eyes stay down field but is quick to take off if he feels the rush. Accurate comfortable delivery doesn't change on the move. Isn't a one read guy. Bright spot for sure. He does scramble too often when there's no need. This is something that will drive his OL bonkers. Leaves clean pockets way too easy and the results are usually not good. This is a big red flag for someone who had some of the cleaner pockets in the country.

He wasn't comfortable in PA early on in his career and although he's improved it stands out from from time to time. MOF/short area/intermediate areas are hit or miss. He's not avoiding them but not really comfortable. Occasionally his delivery looks disjointed. He's not comfortable digesting concepts in the mof, letting them develop, deliver with proper time. Longer he has to go from read to read the more likely the ball is to be incomplete.
For the most part this is what you saw. Excellent protection, lots of separation and throwing simple stuff. Slants or bang 8, simple ins.

Not the biggest knock. I've seen JD work in this area but it's something you have to make note of.

He's made some real improvements throughout his time in college - full reads, pre snap ID, command at the los to change protection or audible. He's definitely grown more as a "leader." He's improved pre-snap but need to keep making strides post. He'll recognize a 2hi to invert or real rotation and disguise can bother him.

"Covid" is still having an impact - I'm not sure good or bad. Considering the season he had. A lot of things fell into place for him but covid is a big reason he's still in school (older prospect)

Mechanics could definitely tighten up. Lets his base get too narrow and funky at times, his release is inconsistent as well. Love his and McCarthy's ability to reduce their shoulders scrambling away/out of pressure. I think Daniels will tuck and run quicker but both really do a good job tucking that shoulder away.

Very impressive considering how he made a living. This will not be lost on decision makers next level. Playing the QB position is like the barter system. A trade off, give & take of sorts. Big plays with little TWP is what it's all about.

I really like Daniels but not at 3. You have to gamble but you want to take smart risks. I don't believe the value is there or risk/reward. It would have to be in a trade back where I'm getting something this year and next.
Daniels has a lot of great qualities about him but he'll be almost 30 by his second contract. If you're drafting him, you're drafting him to play and play very well right away, this year. Obviously with expectations as his floor and ceiling aren't far apart. Improvements can always be made but Daniels is close to his ceiling imo. Which isn't the worst thing bc hes a very talented young man but again, expectations. The Pats don't have a top tier OL unit, even one legitimate deep threat and the coaching hires don't exactly scream Daniels but they're also brand new here. There's not exactly a track record to go off.

I think his true value is late first. Combine that with his age and concerns and I can't take him at 3.

J.J. McCarthy, Michigan

McCarthy threw the ball during workouts exactly the same way he does on film. There are some pretty throws, but I'm still seeing a passer who struggles to control the ball on drive throws because he's putting too much on it, leading to the ball sailing on him over the receivers head. He also struggled a bit with his consistency on go routes. I just do not see a very accurate passer. If he proves me wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.
Michael Penix, Jr., Washington
The real win for Penix was that teams believe his injury history is behind him, and there aren't many concerns about his health moving forward. During interviews, scouts were also impressed with Penix, as he's touted as a high-character guy and natural leader. On the field, as it always does, the ball exploded out of Penix's hand with good zip. He was the most impressive thrower in these drills. We should discuss him as an option for the Patriots at No. 34.
Bo Nix, Oregon
Nix is the accurate game manager who will be available in the second round, which is the proper time to take that skill set. Nix lacks arm strength but was consistent with his accuracy, which is why the pro comparison you hear the most with him is Alex Smith. Like McCarthy, the Pats should aim higher than Nix, but he could work for the right team.
Joe Milton, Tennessee

Should I quit Joe Milton? Probably. But it wouldn't be the combine if we didn't get jazzed up for a big-armed quarterback throwing the ball 70 yards against air. There aren't many human beings with his measurables and arm strength.
