2027 Draft: Linebackers

In terms of effort, violence, attitude and locker room presence, I do think Whit Weeks is the quintessential Vrabel guy. The 225lbs does show up at times though.

#40

"Tennessee star linebacker Arion Carter has been suspended for two games by the NCAA because he returned to college after his agent had paid for a $427 flight to an NFL pre-draft training facility."

So dumb by the NCAA. He had initially declared but later revoked his declaration so perfectly normal to have an agent paying for a ...checks notes... 427 dollar flight.

They initially suspended him 3 games but reduced it to 2 games on appeal. It's a joke. If it was serious they would have kept it at 3 games.

Of course he does.

Still late to the party. Gone are the days of 201 on the Consensus Big Board.

Cole has been #1 on my short board for the Pats since May.

It would be nice to see more strength and power to his game but the speed, bend and twitchiness is so appealing.

John Curry, Texas Tech
6-2, 235

One to consider as a potential WILL if he declares. He's a true junior so probably not. Grades are stellar.

Run Defense - 82.6
Tackling - 81.4 (8.9% MTR)
Coverage - 83.2

He's similar to Jake Golday in that he played more snaps in the slot (380) than as a box linebacker (210). That coverage grade doesn't lie. He'll play the STAR/overhang position this year for Texas Tech.

Jerry Mixon, Oregon
6-2, 240

If grades are to be believed, this is a good year to get a WILL linebacker. Chris Cole, Ben Roberts, Ethan Wesloski, John Curry, KVA and now Jerry Mixon all have coverage grades better than 80.0

-83.4 coverage grade in '25/'26
-240lbs has a nice ring to it for a linebacker
-2 INTs and 4 PBUs.
-run defense needs work. 63.2 run defense grade, 14.9% MTR.

So amusing to see people catching on to the obvious.

Freakish movement skills + tremendous versatility (MIKE, WILL SAM, EDGE, S). Sure, there is stuff to clean up and improve on, but there is Reese/Styles potential.
