PostGame Thread 2026 Official Postgame Thread: Patriots close out preseason w/37-13 loss to the Browns

Immediate Postgame Reactions
Jack Westover seems much improved... I don't get Dippre.
Dippre missed most of camp, he was playing catchup and needed reps.

Westover is 6’3” 243 pounds, Dippre is 6’5” 256 pounds and benched it 32 times at the combine. Dippre is massive, strong and athletic. He’s the prototypical blocking TE.

Neither is a lock, but if they carry a third it will probably be Dippre. They could probably slide both to the PS and call them back up when needed.

I just hope that our primary starters stay healthy because as a lot of you have mentioned and obviously Vrabel stated (shockingly at the time) there isn’t a lot of depth behind the starters. We really saw that last night. I do wonder if some of the guys that were playing out there were pissed off because they had to play and they felt that they had a roster spot locked up and other guys got to sit that are also neck and neck with them… So maybe they put in a half assed effort I don’t know. Still not sure what is going to happen with RB3… Jam Miller made it more difficult last night because he was injured and didn’t play……. But hasty and Haskins are what they are, which is pretty average running back material although Haskins really lowered the shoulder a lot last night and made a great play on special teams. Larison had the spotlight directly on him and could’ve really separated himself and didn’t do it last night… So we’ll have to see what the coaching staff decides. I’m not overly optimistic against Seattle who I don’t think I’ve had much changes to their roster with the exception of Walker, since the Super Bowl. Hopefully we can give them a game.
If the staff thinks that happened, those players won’t make the team. And this is a year where I could see 5-10 spots changing before week one which effectively means they could cut much deeper than 53 and may need to. Depth at CB, LB, Edge is really bad.

Shows you can't skip a beat against KW because; he'll get a step on you. A Game of inches; Drake Maye should take advantage of that.
Like I said, big KW fan and been consistent on that.

But….

This is the type of play that gets a CB cut, like seriously what was he doing!?

I look at the scrimmages as pre-season games
They arent.

The QBs wear red no contact jerseys. The players dont go 100% in scrimmages. Each team is trying to get better vs players unbeknownst to them and escape without injury. The first weeks of the new season is the new preseason. Just watch, offenses will be sputtering and off kilter until they adjust to live action.

Two interesting roles last night…

Arkin, the presumed TE3 if there is one, played more of a complementary TE role rather than moving to the top of the TE depth chart. Dippre and Westover split the majority of the single TE snaps, with Arkin coming on the field as either the FB or second TE. That would match more of his projected role.

Saunders played the entire game at safety, with Pettus, Brown, and Manuma all taking turns next to him.
I don't presume that we will carry 3 TE's, especially considering that we have a FB. We could keep three but it doesn't see necessary.

I do see the 4th safety (5th if you count Schooler) as completely open, even we even carry 4. We went through much of last year with Woodson, Hawkins and Pettus. My WAG is that Pettus will make the 53.

Wozzy I really don't take anything much really from preseason games anymore The joint practices the NFL incorporated years ago has more meaning. It wouldn't make any difference had they gone out and won 30-0.. Vrabel just wants to develop his players especially rookies and unproven guy's. Week 1 on beyond is all that really matters.. the guys have been after it in camp the entire month or more.. fatigue sets in ect. Just my thoughts

Posters forget that In 04 he pats went 1-3 in preseason and won the super bowl
I heard the stat on the Dan Patrick show that this century (I think, but it could have been a shorter timeframe), 42 NFL teams have gone undefeated in the preseason.

28 of them (66.7%) MISSED the playoffs entirely.
