2026 Draft: EDGE

If we double dip I would like EDGE and DT. I would like to see a DT kick outside from time to time.
I kind of agree. I would like us to play more 3-man fronts. My only hesitancy is that it really didn't work well when Keion White was playing as part of a 3-man front son how well it suits I'm not so sure. The other thing is, is that Durden is coming off a 7 pressure game in the playoffs. Maybe we already have someone.

Akheem Mesidor and Lee Hunter works for me.

So you don't have to click through.

you know how all season long I've been saying I don't really see any difference between Bain and Mesidor? This is post-season alone

Pressures:

Bain - 21
Mesidor - 19

Pass rush Grade:

Bain - 85.3
Mesidor - 86.2

Win Rate:

Bain - 24%
Mesidor - 27%

I have become a fan of Mesidor based on highlights. Regardless of them resigning Chaisson they need high level guys on the DL/Edge so there isn't a big drop off when they rotate players. I have been impressed with Ponder, Durden, Gregory, Jennings in the rotation but think we need more.

I see Keyron Crawford much like I do Chaisson. Isn't going to get you may pure pass rush one on one wins but his effort and intensity will get production.

Its impossible not to fall in love with Mesidor when you watch him. But for some reason i have a hard time drafting a guy that is already 25 yo. Its like those old QB that never really work out.

Its worth a flier for sure but how soon i guess its the question.

I do not mind taking an older guy if he has the traits you want, because the draft is such a crap shoot. I would rather take a 25 year old and get quality play than a 22 year old that has lesser traits. My view is you are only getting the 4 year contract out of em anyway.

But to your point if the 25 and 22 year olds have the same traits then go younger guy. Mesidor has better traits imo than most of the guys in this draft

I saw a good point made about Bain and Mesidor by Trevor Sikkema yesterday (Sikkema has Mesidor his # 2 pass rusher in this draft behind Bain).

They've both been coached by one of the best pass rushers in modern NFL history - Jason Taylor. They've been taught the full range of pass rush moves, how to set up their rushes etc. Mesidor might be 25, but he's effectively had three years of NFL coaching and is probably as far along as a 3rd year player drafted at 22.

Mesidor may well be a one contract prospect but you're not wasting years of his first contract developing him.

Eric Galko said that every team he spoke to has a top 100 grade on Malachi Lawrence. Said teams are really excited about Malachi Lawrence.

Never heard of them.

A cautionary note on Michigan's Derrick Moore.

I've been thinking about who are some value names who I think could be impact players for the Pats and Derrick Moore was one I considered a possibility. I'm re-considering a bit.

This season he had 41 pressures an 11 sacks but looking at his game by game data I noticed this.

10 of those pressures came against Maryland - hardly a current force in CFB.

However looking at some of his bigger games:

Zero pressures v Ohio State
1 pressure, zero sacks v USC
1 pressure, zero sacks v Oklahoma
2 pressures,, zero sacks v Northwestern (Caleb Tiernan)

Now he did much better against teams like Michigan State, Purdue, Washington, Wisconsin and Nebraska so there's something there but if you want him to be a plus pass rusher in the NFL, surely you wanting him performing better v ranked teams or quality pass blockers.

I'm a bit more meh on him now. #allroads .

Mesidor finished the post-season with 23 pressures and 5 sacks including 2 in the National Championship. He finished the season on 67 pressures, 13 sacks and a 35.0% pass rush win rate on true passing downs despite missing three games. Abdul Carter finished last year on 66 pressures, 13 sacks and a 35.1 pass rush win rate. Carter played one more game.

Only David Bailey and Nadame Tucker got more sacks this year.

I don't agree personally, but James Foster took Malachi Lawrence to the Patriots ahead of Mesidor in Daft on Draft's most recent mock draft. I was then looking at CBS' board and they too have Malachi Lawrence ahead of Mesidor, although only by three positions.

Moral of this little story. Don't ignore Malachi Lawrence.
