2026 Draft: Defensive Tackle

It's about time.

Ibirogba is a game wrecker. Not a need, but he would be a great addition. Very violent and disruptive.

Ibiroga is clealry one of the best 3-techs in the draft but with Williams and Barmore hopefully being our starters for the next three years, Farmer showing some promise in limited reps and Tonga doing more than enough to warrant a new contract, it's hard to see how drafting a DT makes sense any time before late day 3. If he's clearly BPA in the 3rd or 4th round then sure but it's hard to justify before that.

Very good prospect though.

I see it is a remotely possible opportunity pick.

Overloading on a position provides depth in case of injury, allows you to rotate players to keep them fresh, a d to run heavy sets, with either Williams or Ibirogba outside. Imagine getting David Bailey and having Ibirogba-Barmore-Williams-Bailey, and possibly bring up a LB like Golday. The pressure would be unbelievable.

I think the chance of this happening is extremely low because of the reasons you state, but it doesn't hurt to have him on your board in case he slips and becomes too good a value to pass up. I agree 3rd/4th is the earliest I would probably consider it, and I expect him to go before then, but you never know.

There are good players, players who are good fits, players who make sense. And then there are players I get really excited about. Ibirogba is in the last group.

Shaping up to be a pretty decent DT class:

- Peter Woods a top 15 pick
- A'Mauri Wasington and Caleb Banks (pending medicals) likely top-40 picks, coukd sneak into 1st round
- James Foster and Ian Cummings both have top-50 grades on Mateen Ibirogba
- Cummings has a top-50 grade on Christen Miller, who is currently 31 on PFFs big board
- Zxavian Harris and Kayden McDonald likely risers
- Domonique Orange solid

FT not a need, but you can never have too many, and if someone slips, not a bad potential value area.

DTs are also highly prized, so it would not surprise me to have up to 4 go 1st round, pushing some ither guys down to us.

I like to keep it simple. 3-4? 4-3? In the end you have 2 edge guys and 2 interior guys. They are all 4-3s by a different name really, just slightly different execution. So looking at our DTs I ask myself... what do we lack?

Barmore 6'5 315, Williams 6'3 290 (looks more like 300 though), Tonga 6'2 335, Farmer 6'3 312. I am assuming they keep Tonga. Farmer has had some subpar plays at times, but also is flashing more and more and pulling good plays together. He is going in the right direction 6 games into his rookie season and i am feeling encouraged. I think he played lighter in college earlier but he is doing well at his current 310 or so. And I'd like him to stick to one size. So i am honestly feeling good about these 4.

But what do we lack? I think we could use a really quick inside guy like Aaron Donald (obviously we won't get that on that level, but the same type of player). And since if we sign Tonga DT won't be a a big need I doubt we pick one during day 1 or 2. But are there some raw guys who look promising in that mold? I'm not seeing anyone yet who fits that mold who isn't a high pick. Aaron Graves is the closest name I came across prior to this thread, but he seems to be moving up boards maybe or was already higher than i thought.

Skyler Gill Howard of Texas Tech. He’s injured for the season but he really flashed for TT beforehand. Could be good value because of his injury.

An early favourite of mine if Tonga doesn’t re-sign

NT/DT Prospects

If we're picking a DT, I still want Mateen Ibirogba:

Had a blocked FG against North Carolina last weekend. So disruptive.
