2024 QB class

Of course not. And almost all patriot fans agree.
=========
2 years of truly terrible coaching took their toll, as they did on other QB's like Lawrence for example.
========
There are several teams that need a QB. For example, I could see PIT offering a 2026 2nd or a 2027 1st.
==========
Someone will get Willis and someone will pay $45M or more for one or two of the others. The pickings are slim. And there aren't many better backups available, and there won't be that many free agents worth $45M AAV.
I can't imagine any world where someone offers a first for Jones.
I would be incredibly surprised if someone offers a 2nd.
I think a 3rd is the most that will be offered, and then 9ers will truly have to weigh if that is worth it.
Let's not forget that Shannahan runs a plug and play offense that can make QBs look great.
If someone were to pony up a 1st or 2nd (again, can't see it), I think it will be an epic failure.

There are no ten year contracts in the NFL.

If I had to guess, I'd say that no more than 5% of contracts these days are for even five years (excluding first-round rookies), and I don't think there's been another one longer than 7 years (other than Mahomes) in the last decade.

If Maye’s ascent continues, the gap between great years will be only 5 - an amazingly low amount when you look at other franchises.

13 wins (with a chance for 14) in yeast two ? I can’t not love it !
After the start he had to his career I thought it would take Maye years to get his record up to .500. He's at 16-12.

you'd probably be right... most (99.9%) deals are 4-5 year deals...

but there have been at least three 10 year contracts in recent memory that I know of, with Kermit being the most recent... hardly any pan out, but they have been used in the past...

I still think a lot of my initial pre-draft analysis is coming true.
Maye: Generational QB
Williams: Will be good but not great, possible bust (I think that went out the window with Ben Johnson hire)
Daniels: Will have great rookie year, then will need to not run due to body wear and tear and teams will stop him because he's not a great passer, will get second contract if no better option but 15th best QB in league at best
Nix: Will not get a second contract
Penix: Not an NFL starter
JJ McCarthy-Assuming he landed in a good spot I thought he'd be an NFL starter, not one that can carry a team but one you can live with. The caveat always being he had very little useable college tape to make any definitive analysis. For a guy that was a major project he is so far behind now after missing all this time. I think it's a make-or-break year next year. He may have lost too much development time.

Bo Nix is the only real question here. He's played his best football the last 5-6 weeks. Play that puts him borderline 10th best QB. Up until the he was like the 26th best QB by most rankings. Of course it is heavily skewed by the Packers game. Is he improving at almost 26 years old? He has a great system for him, a good defense.
BUT 63.5% completion worse than rookie year, 88.2 rating worse than rookie, 58.3 QBR slight improvement but not a good #, most damning is the Yards per Attempt, 6.44, down from a bad 6.73. QB's below 7 are normally on losing teams. Dink and dunk and only 63.5 completion seem like it would be hard to do but he does it.
My prediction is Denver fails to make playoffs next year and Nix doesn't get a second contract. I just can't buy into a QB that is not a good passer.

In the end I think Maye, Williams and Daniels start long term. Daniels has injury questions and Williams has processing and accuracy issues (57.9% complete with Ben Johnson???).
Was psyched to get Maye and more psyched now. He's the only non-questionable long term franchise QB in the group.

Here was my original takes pre draft

Your stats aren't wrong, but ultimately the job is to win games.
Nix has done a good job of doing that in his first 2 years.
Pats fans get all up in arms when Mahomes is compared to Brady.
Mahomes has outperformed Brady through their first 8 seasons from a stats perspective, hard to argue against that. You can't just look at stats alone in a vacuum.
There is way too much bad QB play in the NFL for Nix not to get a second contract.
My prediction is he is getting a 2nd contract, and it will be more than $50M AAV.
No ones right or wrong...yet.

That would be the choice

Is a backup QB who you hope will never play worth keeping one more year?

Or is it possible that it might be beneficial to the 49ers to secure a first round pick for him who can contribute for a decade or more

Tough choice.

Anyone who gives a first round choice for Mac Jones should be fired on the spot.

For a first they should drive Jones to the airport. But nobody will offer a first. Well, maybe the Jets.
