2022 Free Agent Receivers - Will the Patriots Target One?

There are rumors that Thielen could be available for trade and that Landry will be let go.

Landry and Thielen both have the sort of skills that the Pats like in that they can line up either in the slot or outside.

Landry had 320 plays where he ran routes. 203 of the 320 (63.4%) were from the slot. 127 (36.6%) were lined up wide.

Thielen had 472 plays where he ran routes. 116 of the 472 were from the slot (24.6%). 356 (75.4%) were lined up wide.

They both have similar contracts. Landry is 2 years younger....but. Still think Thielen can be Mac's go to guy. Cousin, he is the Wes/Julius Mac helper/outer version.Ha.
Here is the telling stat. Thielen 6.77 3 cone and Landry 7.56.
We need more quickness for separation IMO to get Mac a quick target.

Browns landed Cooper at $20 million per, and cut Landry.

Alas, they'll still be the Browns.

What's Landry's cap # we all liked him back in Miami.

Welcome back, Cousin.

In politics they say don't compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative.

Well, don't compare guys this team is coveting to other guys, compare it all with cap space that can be created. It's not that they take no shots this year, it's more that there is a powerful incentive to build through the draft more often this year

That said, I wouldn't be all in AGAINST a Dotson deal.

Yes please

Let's wait for the release: though he might prefer the Chiefs or Titans over us based overall Talent and his age. He might want a chance to go to the Big game.

Not interested in Landry.

Landry could be real valuable inside the numbers for a Team like the Chiefs who have all that Speed on the Outsides. He could play catch with Mahomes from the Slot.

If they do release him? $0. He becomes a non-compensitory free agent. His cap hit this year is $16.3m, but $14.3 of that is salary.

If the Pats are looking for a WR, I'm sure he's on the radar. He'd fit here pretty well, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

You could fill any name in there and get pretty much the same result. Landry isn’t special. Meyers is similar.

Landry would be the quick slot receiver that can carry the workload this team has been missing since Edelman (and yes, I know Edelman played a lot outside especially later in his career, but he was the last great slot receiver this team has had).

If I was Landry, I would want to go to the Pats over at least the Jets and Titans. The Pats use the slot receiver far more (and more effectively) than those two teams. Hell, Wilson always wants to throw the home run pass on every throw and unless the Jets train him to check down and take the short pass more, Landry would be miserable if he wasn't getting passes because Wilson is constantly trying to scramble out of the pocket and throw the ball 40 yards down the field while under pressure and forcing the ball. I could see him wanting to go to the Chiefs if he wants to chase a ring. At least short term, they are his best shot, at least in the short term, and he is going to be 30 midway through next season.

Even if the Pats trade for Landry, I still hope they upgrade the WR position more. Landry would definitely take some coverage off the other receivers, but I would still like to see an upgrade to the corp.

Landry is significantly better than Meyers. Look at Landry's production with the Miami version of Tannehill and Baker Mayfield. He really hasn't had the cream of the crop of QBs throwing to him. Mayfield has been good at times, but he has been inconsistent during his career. Overall, he has been average at best. And Tannehill was very similar in Miami.

Jarvis Landry’s cap number via a trade would be $15.1m.
Adam Thielen’s cap number via a trade would be $12.65m.

Thielen’s signed through 2024 ($13.65m and $16m in other two years, no guarantees) while Landry’s deal is up after 2022. Landrey will be 30 this year while Thielen will be 32; didn’t realize he was that old. Both of their YPC fell to 11 last year. Not sure if function of talent diminishing or overall use.

I think they might both be past their peak. Neither has topped 1000 yards in a season this decade.
