I think he took the pay cut cause he wanted to stay as a number 2
Right, but if they were to receive an offer they couldn't refuse...

Did MM actually say he prefers to be a 2nd? Or is the media saying that?

What's with these guys like Mariota and Trubisky content on being #2 rather then competing for a starting job?

He obviously saw Stidham's Patriots West instagram and realized there was no way he was going to beat Stid out of the backup job in NE.

I totally get it. You get to make millions without having to risk a torn acl or concussion. The only problem is when you get stuck behind someone like Brady or Favre and never get to play and then the league forgets your value.

There’s really not as much extra space to be had as we might believe. There really are not that many players with sizeable Paragraph 5 salaries to easily be converted to bonuses or guarantees and lower their cap charges

Gilmore is not playing for $7 million. If traded, they save $7 million. But, extending him with a raise might not lower his cap figure much because I don’t think the extension would be that long considering his age.

Mccourty’s contract already voids after this year and would not be an easy extension. This is the final year of the Hightower’s contract. The only players who could be easily redone would be Mason and J. Jones.
Why do people keep saying Gilmore won’t play for $7 million. He doesn’t have a choice.

He certainly may be traded, or they may rework his contract, and he can retire, but those are the three options other than playing on his current contract.
