Absolutely. He doesn't have to play much for an organization that he doesn't like.

Also keep in mind Houston would then have to decide whether or not to play him. If he were to get injured after not having camp to prep, Houston would still have to pay his guaranteed money. Not to mention lose some trade value.

And Houston at that point may be tanking. Playing Watson could mess that up.

I’m not sure anyone believes we only go into the season with Newton. And I’m pulling for him.

Never said they go with only Newton. Just said they have QB.
And to me Cam is a viable starter esp. w BB and the team as being constructed.
Can perfectly live with this and dont need fantasy.
Will they add a QB or two, will it be rookie or vet, backup or starter idk & dont particularly care.

Cam is doing his best to prepare to lead this team and for the moment that is good enough for me.

The real win is when he's traded. A loss to him would be playing as usual for that team.

Times have changed. Players have huge leverage now because they have a direct platform to the public. The PR would be awful for the Texans to keep a player who doesn’t want to be there. In 2021 if a player thinks you are racist (reportedly the heart of Watson’s issue with McNair), you can’t force him to play ball so to speak. And sitting him, as opposed to collecting multiple 1st rounders isn’t smart business. He will get moved eventually this offseason.

They aren’t sitting him. They are not trading him. He would be holding out. If his choice is to hold out forever or play, he will play. The Texans do not want to trade him. There is no reason for them to blink. He will show up.

I don’t see a HUGE signing at QB. But we do need to upgrade backup and f Cam is the guy this year. Draft could be the spot for that. But my point was that a Watson or Jimmy isn’t realistic because of cap.
It is also possible that Bill said to Cam: “ Look, we didn’t give you much to work with last year. Sign back for cheap and we will surround you with studs and you can have a bounce back season”.
