2017 . Trade Deadline . thread

EDIT:
Some good news on Rivers Jules post surgery as well.
acc. to Curran (co-author of JE book) Jules hopes to be ready for offseason conditioning

@DE/OLB: Keep in mind Rivers and also Keionta Davis are returning next season so long term depth there might not really be a need..

Its the last week before trade deadline. Pats usually make a move or two in both directions so it is reasonable to believe that they will at least be active on the market again. BB said himself yesterday that teams know Pats are always open for business.

Maybe instead of opening a new thread for every name someone wakes up with . we can have one thread that monitors and lists more realistic options. Instead of pure salivation and grass is greener “approach“ we should at least check the realm of availability and purchase (like taking a look at contracts, cap space etc.) and add at least some meat on the bone..
___

Let me start with the name that is circling around lately . has some rationale . and addresses a position still seen as a need (at least in depth) by most fans - pass rusher..

NFL.com:
He missed all last season with a torn ACL, but he's bounced back this autumn with a pair of QB takedowns already. A surprise inactive this past Sunday, Kikaha has the feel of a player being shopped. NESN's Doug Kyed picked out New England as a potential trade partner, which makes plenty of sense for a team in need of pass-rushing help. It wouldn't cost much to acquire Kikaha, and Bill Belichick is one of the NFL's most active wheelers and dealers.
____

PRO:
- Proved pass-rushing talent w impressive rookie season (stopped by continuous streak of injuries (ACL, knee)). Draft take: “Relentless. Bends the edge hard. Plays with his hand on the ground and stands up. Scheme versatile. Intelligent player. Kikaha led the nation in sacks. He gets to the quarterback in a variety of ways. His effort is outstanding. You're drafting him to get to the quarterback.
NFL COMPARISON: Rob Ninkovich“
- Had a good game vs NE in week 2
- Good relationship between NE and NO should make the trade easier if interest

CON:
- Pats already traded for an undersized pass rusher that has some issues containing the edge in Cassius Marsh - unlike him Kikaha is not used much on ST
- With McClellin coming back, extension to KVN (plus his improvement by the game) and going back to the use of High as OLB/MLB part-time pass rusher . in the end this might not be a position of need after all (w full-sized DE certainly more of a depth need)
- His injury history might be #1 reason for his possible availability and expected low price tag . still trading for depth should include more dependability given how banged up the team is already..
____

More on his current status: New Orleans Saints: Hau'oli Kikaha

This is the deal I’m hoping for.

 Sorry BD: but I stopped reading right there... why would any NFL Team even with Blind GM Trade for Goose Eggs Galore Dwayne Allen??

Cause he has a history of doing fairly well in the NFL. in 3 of his 4 healthy years he got between 400-500 yards give or take. That is enough to put him as one of the top 32 TEs in the NFL in those years and in general. Yes he is crap compared to Gronk but most TEs are. There are maybe only 10-15 legit TEs in the NFL. Most muddle through with a 2nd or 3rd rate option as their starter and many are worse than Allen.

I am not trying to say we ill get some amazing value for him. I think a 5th is possible though considering he is under contract for 2 more years after this one.

AND, as if on cue, DA misses Wednesday’s practice with an injury.

Lets hope it's for a well deserved day off DA have to be on pace to hit his salary escalators.

Ideal Trade Target for Each NFL Team

This has Arizona listed for Jimmy G let’s say we do this in this off season. I wonder if BB would trade Jimmy there if the pick is 8-12 area. Sign a back for Brady the next 2-3 years and use the Arizona pick on a qb will trading out from 32 (I said it)

I hope you don't mind but lets keep it about 2017 TRADE DEADLINE here . otherwise this thread gets derailed with Jimmy back and forths . and there are plenty threads about that..

just an illustration that its starting..

I wonder if Nate Solder can hold up mentally and emotionally with what's going on with his son. My heart breaks for this guy as my cousin is going through a similar situation with her daughter. I wonder if trading for a tackle that can be counted on to protect TB's backside as an insurance policy would be a good idea. I don't have confidence in either Flemming or Waddle to be put at LT on a permanent basis. My hope is Solder can play the year out but who could blame him if he decided to take time to be with his son.

Heard some speculation on the local radio here in SF that 9ers might be open to trading Joe Staley.

Radio show fodder, or speculation fueled by a tip-off from a team insider?

EDIT: Interesting take by Lombardi before this news:

“ the way to guarantee yourself to not be (immediately) traded is to ask to be traded. Bc what happens is if you do that and the club trades Bryant now f.e. - it looks like they gave in to his demands.. So now the rest of the locker room anytime they're upset they start screeming they want to be traded. So now even if you want to trade the guy you can't bc this will create chaos in your locker room..“

of course its a PIT locker room so..

Pats Fans be all excited for what BB will get in a trade until we find out it's just a conditional mid-round pick for our best linebacker. ;)

This team has more than enough talent to go all the way. The biggest problem is all the new guys that were brought in. Not all of them are are getting it. I wouldn't bring in more new guys to fix that.

That said Solder has been abysmal so far and that needs to change one way or another.

Who says he would learn the offense?
I'm not sold on any wr for trade making a impact this season who isn't named Larry.
