2017 Draft Prospect Thread

San Diego State CB Damontae Kazee ended his college career with 17 INT 29 PBU and 6 FF and 2 defensive TD in 53 games.

*Binky Alert*
When talking about corners who can play the run Kazee is absolutely up there with the best. Coach him up a lil bit and you might have one hell of slot guy who can blitz and blow up some plays around the los.

Btw Lamp absolutely owned Jaylon Ferguson. He played like an absolute pro that day.

So this isn’t like a one hit wonder type deal.

Also Solomon Thomas is a guy thats a must watch. I heard someone say they liked him as much as Allen. 6'3 290.

2016 54 tkl (35 solo) 12 tfl 7.5 sacks
2015 37 tkl (23 solo) 10.5 tfl 3.5 sacks

PFF From Bowl Games

WR Keevan Lucas, 77.2 (Late round slot option)

T Forrest Lamp, 83.6 (Versatile beast we could play anywhere)

WR Carlos Henderson, 92.6 ( He's a do it all type w/ some big play capabilities. He's also a threat in the return game, 1 of 20 players since 2000 to record 2,500 yards receiving along with at least 1,500 yards on kick returns. Antonio Brown, Tyler Lockett, and T.Y. Hilton are among some others to achieve the same)

Boston College’s Harold Landry has the second-highest pass-rushing productivity score among 4-3 defensive ends.

While Landry had an excellent year against the run in 2015, he still had room for improvement in rushing the passer. However, the BC edge rusher made the leap this season and generated more pressures in actually less pass rushing snaps. Landry recorded at least three total pressures in nine of his 12 games and had at least two in all of them. Although pressure numbers may not be impressive at first glance without the player converting pressures into sacks, Landry did just that and led 4-3 defensive ends with 16 sacks. Overall, he recorded 16 sacks, 7 quarterback hits and 42 quarterback hurries on just 284 pass-rush snaps.

(He's a smart, tough kid that has improved every year and really made a jump this year w/ his get off and hands. Stays tight around loop. Saw him use the T's weight against him a few times and cause him to fall. He's most likely a stand up guy, OLB, but very interesting on a "multiple" team like ours)

North Texas’ Ashton Preston allowed 55 yards after catch in the slot, the fewest among 69 qualifying cornerbacks.

Preston had an up-and-down season, with a couple games where he played really well and some other outings where he allowed passer ratings above 100 in coverage. However, even when he allowed completions, he certainly did not surrender a lot of yards, allowing more than 50 yards in coverage in only one game in the entire season. Furthermore, he allowed only 0.73 yards per cover snap in the slot, tied for 10th-lowest in college football.

(Like they said up and down but has the short memory and attitude you look for)

Minnesota’s Jalen Myrick has allowed more than 50 yards in coverage in only two of his 12 games this season.

Although, unlike in 2015, Myrick did allow a touchdown reception in coverage, the Minnesota cornerback had another solid year in pass coverage. Overall, Myrick allowed just three touchdowns while he had an interception and also recorded seven pass breakups. Also, he allowed a completion percentage below 50 percent in coverage and opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 76.1 when targeting him. In addition, he gives up a reception only once in every 17.5 cover snaps, the 17th-best ratio in college football.

(I had Myrick as a 6th-7th before the year. I could def see someone taking him before that. 2 more than solid years of production)

West Virginia’s Rasul Douglas allowed a passer rating above 100 in only one game this season.

Although defense has not really been in focus in the Big 12, Douglas has been among the best cover cornerbacks in college football this season. While Douglas was the ninth-most-targeted cornerback with 86 passes going his way, he allowed only 36 receptions for 526 yards. Furthermore, he allowed a passer rating of only 35.3 when he was thrown at, which was the seventh-lowest in the nation.

(I would love to take a shot on a guy like or Witherspoon or both? I know both will get a lot of attention but could easily slip. Both are big, long guys that can cover)

Miami CB Corn Elder allowed more than 50 passing yards in only one game.

The Russell Athletic Bowl will feature two prominent cornerbacks as Miami’s Corn Elder too had an excellent season in coverage. While interceptions avoided him, he did have five pass breakups and one interception to the two touchdowns he allowed in coverage. Also, he allowed only 0.70 yards per cover snap, which was tied for 27th-lowest in the nation. Elder did not give up a lot of yards overall either as he allowed only 289 receiving yards this season.

(Plays the run very well too. Heard a lot of people love him and some project him as a S if he can put on some lbs)

Colorado’s Ahkello Witherspoon recorded 13 pass breakups this season, the most in college football.

The Buffaloes’ secondary features multiple playmakers; however, none of them get their hands on more passes than Witherspoon who had 13 pass breakups and an interception. In addition, the senior cornerback gave up more than 60 receiving yards in only one game all season as he allowed a passer rating of only 51.9 in coverage.

(I've seen him play this season and more than a few times I say no way hes 6'2. Moves very well)

Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett had 46 total pressure rushing from the right side, the third-most among 4-3 defensive ends.

All eyes were on Garrett coming into the season and he did not disappoint as he solidified his position as a top five pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The Texas A&M defensive end recorded 45 total pressures for the third consecutive season and actually finished his best year as a run defender as he had a career-low three missed tackles in 2016. Overall, Garrett racked up 9 sacks, 14 quarterback hits and 27 quarterback hurries.

(A guy can dream. He only 20!!!! Kid had a 400 bench and squat at 18. He'll run a sub 4.60 at around 270. Absolute freak)

30. Kansas State’s Jordan Willis recorded 71 total pressures, the third-most among 4-3 defensive ends.

The Texas Bowl will feature two of the best edge rushers in the nation as the Big 12’s best 4-3 defensive end is playing for Kansas State. Willis was able to build on a promising 2015 season and has become opposing quarterbacks’ nightmare for his senior season. The Kansas City native had 14 sacks in 13 games and was a force against the run as well. Overall, Willis recorded 14 sacks, 9 hits and 50 quarterback hurries on 453 pass rushing snaps.

(Willis is a guy I go back and forth on. He'll make a play and show a lot than look very sluggish getting of the los.)

PFF

WR Taywan Taylor, 74.7

Taywan Taylor was the Hilltoppers leading receiver, catching 9 of his 15 targets for 145 yards for an impressive 16.1 yards per catch. Tackle Forrest Lamp ended the season surrendering only one quarterback hurry all year and only giving up 3 sacks in his entire college career, he’ll hope to bring that consistency next year on Sundays.

I think Lamp could play anywhere on the line including C.

HB Jamaal Williams, 73.8

BYU running back Jamaal Williams ran with a level of power that the Wyoming defense had trouble contending with, he carried the ball 26 times averaging 7.7 yards per rush with 113 yards after contact. The Cowboys defense couldn’t wrap up the big back consistently as he forced 9 missed tackles. Williams did uncharacteristically put the ball on the ground in the first quarter, only his second fumble of the season.

You always point out so many players I like. Great breakdowns! I'm actually shocked they had Douglas giving up that many yards and receptions, because I went back and watched all his games this season, and he's lockdown. The only stuff I saw him give up was underneath when protecting against the big play when in the lead, so it seemed like he was playing with more cushion and just tackling after a modest gain. Once or twice I saw him give up a jump ball, but he was always competitive. At the very least, he's got really good technique in cover 2, so he could help us shut down Sanders.

I'm surprised they didn't mention his interception total, since he was extremely productive all year. I'm guessing their metrics downgrade him for some of the yardage totals, but when I look at the context, I don't see a guy getting burned up and down the field. He's a player.

Landry is a guy I need more work on, just because we never seem to take designated pass rushers with his build (Cunningham and Flowers are the closest, and they had more bulk). We usually shoot for significant length and weight. Incidentally, I was surprised that we didn't roll the dice in Romeo Okwara last year. Similar size and testing numbers to Chandler Jones (neither one lit up the 40, but were decently nimble and has good jumping numbers for weight). He's found a spot with the Giants.

Charles Harris is someone I'm keeping an eye on currently. He might end up being the most natural rusher of the entire bunch. Expect him to blow up after the combine. Rare athlete with excellent effort -- those guys always go higher than expected.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to doing more work on this edge class, and I'm excited for the upcoming senior bowl. Should be a good one!

A couple small school guys I am keeping an eye on.

De'angelo Henderson
5'8 205

His nickname is Hop, and for good reason. He would be the one guy in the draft that looks and plays like dion Lewis. Incredible step through and bounce ability, with the balance to go with. He also has the necessary aggression to play between the tackles.

Phazahn odom
6'8 255lbs

Bucky hodges get a lot of love as a huge receiving option for te red zone, but odom has all of the same physical qualities, but even taller. He runs like OJ Howard, just to mention his athleticism. There are questions about his blocking, but a really interesting option to keep an eye on as a 6/7/udfa option.

Adam shaheen
6'7 270lbs

Another monster tight end playing against low level of competition. He set the D2 record for TDs for TEs, and led all TEs in the county in yards touchdowns and receptions. Given his size, you would think he would be prodding, but he is very good accelerating with the ball. His ball skills for a lower level are also very impressive, making him a deadly red zone option. He reminds me a lot of a tight end I loved a few years ago, Jesse James, who I thought looked like Scott chandler. Shaheen is actually bigger, so he is a very intriguing prospect. His blocking will leave a lot to be desired, but think of him as a blank canvas.

Ashland TE Adam Shaheen has declared for the draft. at 6'7" and 277lbs he intrigues me, particularly with this athleticism:

I started posting mine in the morning, did Christmas gifts, finished my post, and saw you had posted this.

Good timing.

LF7 is a tremendous talent that up until now I've only heard good things. "Great guy" in poor environment story. Lots of tragic stuff around him. That's nothing new. Kinda been his narrative if you will.

Recently his "attitude" and or "ego" has come into question. Apparently "Ed wanted him gone" in August.

And that was reaffirmed throughout the season and the Florida game is one in particular. Like the election years ago. Florida Florida Florida!

I want to reiterate that this isn't anything huge. At least what I heard. Nothing like Manny shoving someone or anything like that. This ... so far, is "me first" stuff.

After that game team was "tired". He was playing, then he wasn't. Pushed a coach before the game and demanded to play. Wasn't made available to talk to reporters after.

Team didnt like how he handled it and Ed WASN'T the first person LF7 told he was playing. He was "ready" after the incident. So apparently the injury wasn't that big a deal? Again just looks like "me first" stuff.

Keionta Davis is a guy I've liked since last year. 6'4/260 Big, strong at poa. He'll power through inside after a fake. Has some some bend for a guy that isn't the best "athlete". Has some good hands.

He could use an NFL training program and a good year or two under his belt.

Not much available but Ive seen some other clips around Ill for when I get a chance. Tore acl in hs and injuries in 2014, so I'm sure Bill was notified once the acl tore

Keionta Davis vs Jacksonville State (2015) | Draft Breakdown

Dallas Goedert pronounced Got-ter
6'4/250

Very little known and has at least another year if he wants it.

Very Athletic kid that plays really loose and smooth. Competition is absolutely putrid but the kid has some skills.

Soft hands. Very nice movement and adjustments

Great find. I think I have a new binkie!

He plays with confidence. Always a good thing. That catch was sick but would he feel comfortable doing that against real competition?

Really want to see more.

Solomon Thomas has some great, heavy hands and shows some real power every time he plays.

I had a chat the other day about him w/ someone who liked him almost as much as Allen.

7ft high jumper David Njoku is entering the draft.

6'4 245 and rumors of some crazy #'s he'll put up.

Basically every position besides QB, T and WR are absolutely stacked. Even WR and T have a few really good prospects.

This will be an incredible draft.
