I tend to agree. I didn't think Givens was anything special in 02 either and look what happened.

With regards to picking up players cut by other teams, or even our own, how long is the waiver period?

Teams have to put in waiver claims for all released players before 12 pm eastern the day after final cuts.

If a player was cut and not claimed on waivers that morning, and are practice squad eligible, they can then be signed to a team's PS.

And then at the start of Sept 8th (12:00 am Eastern) the top 51 rule (see Miguel's timeline for details) is no longer in effect.

So at 5pm the NFL will publish a list of every single roster move made by every team so every team can see it.

I wonder what spawned that? Don't they have some kind of notification on transactions that they get from the league office?

In the day of firehosing twitter feeds and texts and big data can't some quality control kid dump them all into a spreadsheet?

Yeah the league gets all the lists and send them. But odd nonetheless.
