2015 already looking to be a mess for the Bills- Marrone opts out

Seems like Buf is cleaning house in a quiet, kinder-gentler manner.

1st winning season since 2004 and a top 5 defense and they clean house.

Another organization that just can't out of it's own way.

Would not surprise me if BUF was one of those franchises that moved to LA.

People wonder why the AFC almost never fields playoff teams besides the Patriots the past 10 years. For exhibit A look at Doug Marone. Why would he opt out of his contract now? It is pretty clear. He built a strong D and has good offensive weapons and got a vet QB. Still only barely managed 9-7 and missed the playoffs. He does not like the prospect of having the face BB/Brady the next few years especially without Orton.

This is why the AFCE usually does not field other top teams. Good GMs and HCs tend to run away from the BB/Brady combo year after year. Marone knows he needs a good QB to have a chance to go 10-6 when he can assume 2 loses if the Pats play seriously.

Ryan is a good coach but without Revis it feel apart quickly and he played the Pats in some of their weaker years. Any coach seeing the Patriots with Brady and this D for a few more years and looking at what the other teams in the AFC have for QBs knows they have an uphill battle and they would rather go somewhere else where they might not need to deal with a team that will win 12+ games a year.

Bills a mess? This has never happened to them...

probably thinks with what he did with the bills he can get a better gig like atlanta or the niners those teams have much more talent than the bills overall
I don't know. The Bills have a pretty good defense already as we say, and a number of pieces on offense. Given them a QB and they'll be competitive. Hell, they were competitive this year with Kyle Orton. What's their cap number look like?

at that time i was thinking of SF and Atlanta. I agree the bills need a qb and they would be a very good team.

Dying laughing right now. Marrone quits cause of Polian then Polian quits. Laughing my ass off (lmao)

And....Polian just bowed out.

Hysterical. Bills, Jets and 'Fins....all a mess.

The Bradlees, Lechmere and Tweeter of NFL franchises...

This is just unbelievably stupid on so many levels. First off I live in Toronto and listen to Buffalo sports radio a lot during the football season. And I watch a lot of Bills games because they are always on TV here.

Marrone is a poor coach who has wildly overvalued himself. I think that the real reason why he opted will come out in the next couple of weeks. Either his agent Sexton used the opt out to renegotiate Marrone's deal feeling he had the Bills over a barrel, and the Bills said no and he got his nose bent out of shape. Or he heard from reliable sources that he was very close to being fired before the end of the season and he got his nose bet out of shape. To me this whole move stinks of ego and nothing more.

I was hoping like hell that the Bills would not fire him as he is so mediocre and makes so many in game mistakes. He's a terrible with time management and is a complete zero when it comes to any kind of innovation. He's the ultimate "play it safe and play not to lose" NFL coach. I wanted him in Buffalo for as long as they'd have him.
Now to hear that he's opted out is unbelievable. What a joke. And to hear that the Jest are interested in him, well Lord, please make it so!!!! I genuinely just cannot believe that this guy will get another HC job in the NFL. But if its to the Jets, we as Pats fans are truly blessed.

F-a-v-o-r-i-t-e. You're on an American message board, so please use American English.

What I want to know is WHY he decided to leave. New owner and Polian, perhaps?

Maybe Maroon will go to the Green Beans and Wrecks will take the Bills job. That would be classic.

Marrone saw the sands shift under his feet to new ownership and a new GM. Orton pronanly told him he was retiring. He also gets to walk away with $4 million guaranteed for 2015.

Prediction: the 49ers will announce Doug Marrone as their new head coach.

Good insight. I was never overly impressed with Marrone either but the fact that they improved and posted their 1st winning record in 10 years afforded him a little credit.

I do think with the ownership change and a new football leader coming in, if he was fired would he have lost the $4m? I would assume yes.

Yep. I am guessing Pollian signs Manning after Elway releases him and then gets a waiver from the league to play their home games in LA until his career is over.

We laugh and how inept the NYJ are now but from 1989 to 1992 the Pats were THE worst franchise in sports. Ownership. Stadium. Front office. Coaching. Players. Image. Brand. Everything....

I recall MacPherson bringing a lot of energy to the sidelines. The problem is that he had Joe Mendes, Sam Jankovich and Kiam as his support structure. Not good...

I remember those days. Rod Rust, **** MacPherson, Sullivan Stadium and Victor Kiam. The good news was that it's hard to watch the game with your head in the oven.

Thank god I was in college during those years. Made it much easier to deal with
