2014 Draft Prospect Thread

Major major binky alert!!!

Zach Kerr, DT, Delaware

6'1", 310 lbs

Credit to Stelfans, he mocked Kerr back before Christmas.

I've just watched the below highlight video for Kerr and all I can say is that this guy has a killer swim move and some serious athleticism in a 310 lb body. He might not blow up the combine but he has genuine quickness. He won't be as good as Wilfork but he definitely reminded me of him.

I've started the video at 4:26. Watch the DT #94 for about the next 5 plays. You'll see short area quickness, sideline to sideline speed and even the ability to chase a RB 30-40 yards downfield. All in the body of a 310lb DT. He's also a co-captain so fits in that regard at least.

And when you've got 10 minutes to spare, watch the whole thing. I know it's only a highlight video, but I'm nearly as excited about this guy as I was Terron Armstead last year.

Kerr is at the Shrine game this week so keep an eye out for news on him, I know I will.

I believe Kerr weighed in around 334# at Shrine Game.

I thought I'd read 310 but you are right. At 334, he's much better value than Louis Nix as far as I'm concerned. A really good long-term Wilfork replacement, in part because of that outstanding motor that others are rightfully noting.

This is interesting:

Interesting note: #Bloomsburg DE Larry Webster is being scouted as a TE convert for several teams. Ex-bball player - very athletic specimen

Dane Brugler

He's 6056 and 249 and reputedly very athletic.

Wow! Great motor. A 100-something pound DT chasing guys down on the other side and way downfield.

Obviously I meant a 300-something...

I need to stop posting without my glasses.

The Shrine game has some very good day 3 NT prospects. Besides Kerr there's Wisconsin's Beau Allen (6'3" 323#), who I've been following for a while. Tony Pauline has finally caught on to Allen. And there's 6'2" 351# Justin Ellis, who was dominant yesterday according to Dane Brugler:

Entering the week, my top defensive tackle prospect participating this week was Louisiana Tech DT Justin Ellis (6-2, 351) and he hasn't disappointed so far. He used his active hands and quick feet to beat blockers during drills, putting spin moves on Oklahoma's Gabe Ikard and also steamrolling him on a few occasions. To no surprise, Ellis weighed in as the heaviest prospect here at 351 pounds and he uses that girth well to bully blockers and surge through the line of scrimmage.

I also like Shamar Stephen who I think is a more multi-purpose DT that's stout against the run rather than a strict NT type. Certainly Justin Ellis is the first in the post CFB, pre-draft season to flash and help himself.

I like him too, and also Cal DT DeAndre Coleman. Lots of solid day 3 options.

Which is why I've soured Daquan Jones as a day two option. Just don't think he offers enough over the likes of Stephen to warrant that early a pick.

EIU QB Jimmy Garoppolo had a tremendous practice today. Got the ball out fast, was in better command compared to Monday. #ShrineGame

Jimmy, Jimmy.

Do most of the Shrine Guys get Drafted? I know most Senior Bowl Guys do but what about the Shrine?

No. I'm guessing at the percentage but I'd say probably a quarter to a third get drafted, maybe a little higher. I'd also say that there'll only be a handful of day two guys on these rosters. Pretty much all day 3 and udfa. That is a complete guess however.
