The 2 highest completion% games in NFL history happened this past week

    Rivers went 28/29
    Mariota went 22/23

The 5th highest % happened the previous week: Eli went 17/18.

Maybe something needs to be done to give defenses a chance?

    Rivers was sacked 4 times
    Mariota was sacked 6 times

Both of them would have helped their teams more by throwing the ball away (taking an incompletion) rather than taking a sack, on multiple occasions

So, yes, they would have been BETTER, not worse, at quarterbacking if they had thrown additional incomplete passes.

You can bet your life that TB12 would rather throw it away, if possible, than take a sack, on every single instance where that is an option.

Outside of two throws, Mariota’s passes were essentially all checkdowns. So his was a bit more fluky

Dam I miss the Dink 'n' Dunk Brady...he ain't making the AFC Pro Bowl this year. It's obvious Rivers - Big Ben and Luck are ahead of him.

You need to do a better job identifying your sarcasm. Sometimes I think you mean this stuff.

You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think Luck and Rivers are having better seasons from a statistical standpoint

When I heard about River's performance I expected to see a gameplan of screen passes or something, but I'll give him credit. There were plenty of passes in there that didn't have the highest completion probability.

Why would I care about a statistical standpoint?

This owes more to rules and officiating than great quarterback play.

Absolutely, the NFL game has become terribly unbalanced favoring offense.

There's legitimately no argument that Brady is having a better season than Philip Rivers. He's quietly an MVP candidate, though probably behind Brees, Mahomes, and Goff. You can't even do the regular argument where you point to wins, because the Chargers have the same record as the Patriots. I'm slightly more skeptical of Luck, because while he's been very good since after the Patriots game, he's also played the softest schedule in the league in that timeframe, facing the Titans, the rest of the AFC East, Oakland, and Jacksonville. That said, I don't think Brady is playing demonstrably better than Luck either.

This year's list of top QBs has been one where Brees is clearly on top, followed by a second tier of Mahomes, Goff, and Rivers. Brady's probably towards the back end of a crowded third tier that includes the likes of Luck, Wilson, Watson, Newton, Ryan, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, and perhaps Cousins.

I think Mahomes, Rivers, and Watson are the three best QBs in the AFC this season. Some combination of Roethlisberger, Brady, and Luck are the next three. Mayfield could also work his way into the conversation with a strong finish, though I'm more inclined to say he'll be there next year.

    Of course

Tom is strategically completing less passes, throwing for less yards, less touchdowns, and more interceptions

You should try taking off your homer glasses at some point.

I guess you think Peyton Manning was better than Brady too.
It’s a shame when you let statistics do your thinking for you.
