Pushing back the Super Bowl.
Report: Presidents' Day weekend Super Bowls are coming - ProFootballTalk

Once they get to the 18th game, the SB will be on Presidents’ Day weekend, which would actually be quite good for those who have that holiday off.

It's stupid to not have it on a Saturday night on Sunday on Presidents' Day weekend now. I don't get why they wouldn't have it on a day where most people including kids don't have to work the next day. it would expand their audience.

See the PFT article. Money talks. Advertisers pay more for Sunday nights not on holiday weekends because more people will watch the commercials.

Already used to take Super Bowl Monday off anyway. Now not so much. Ridiculous with this 17th game and unbalanced schedule. Just like baseball now. Shameful.
They actually did the unbalanced schedule correctly, which is a shock for the NFL. The entire conference has an extra home (or road) game that season. So it doesn’t impact postseason seeding, everyone equally benefits or suffers. The NFL has had some form of “power-pairing” schedule since the 1960s, this just takes it from 2 games (for the Patriots, it is the Browns and Chargers games) to 3 games (adding the Cowboys).

The game starts at 6:30 in the east.... do you really think there are people out there saying "can't watch it... gotta work tomorrow...."

Friday's and Saturday's are the worst nights for TV ratings.

Third String But Playing on Special Teams
This opens up a path for Brady to break the single season passing title at age 44. And I'm not joking.

I wasn't in favor of the 17-game schedule until I saw the matchups, which are awesome!

Packers at Chiefs = A+
Bears at Raiders = C+
Vikings at Chargers = B-
Lions at Broncos = C-
Seahawks at Steelers = A
Rams at Ravens = A
Cardinals at Browns = A-
49ers at Bengals = C-
Saints at Titans = A
Buccaneers at Colts = A+
Panthers at Texans = C
Falcons at Jaguars = C-
Washington at Bills = B+
Giants at Dolphins = C+
Cowboys at Patriots = A
Eagles at Jets = C-

Ok, so half are awesome. Packers at Chiefs... it's worth it just for that one alone. Every game is watchable but then again I'm watching DVR'd games (no Pats for obvious reasons, just Bucs and postseason games) from last season to get me through until the start of the 2021 season. Looking forward to getting back to Gillette! The game of the year is going to be Bucs at Pats but that Cowboys game is a welcomed addition.

My Buccaneers at Patriots tickets will be available in exchange for a pair of Silver Air Jordan's, a McLaren Sabre and your house.

Seems like a money grab. These guys already beat the S*** out of their bodies already. Why subject them to another regular season game?
Well yeah lol. I don’t know why people are saying this like a gotcha. Of course it’s about money, it’s a business.

The players might be okay with it to soften the Covid loss.

They really should have added a second bye. I don’t really see why not, it would add another week to the season without adding any games.

there's more money in a 17th regular season game than in a 4th pre-season game. And fans, other than here, will also have more interest.

To paraphrase my favorite hibachi chef as he squirts the sake into a customers mouth “more football, more happy”.

I have zero problems with the extra game.

Players okayed it when they voted for the new CBA.

Really don't think this is a big deal.

And it goes until 11. Lots of people go out to parties or bars and watch it, yes it should be moved to the Sunday before President's day. Some people have kids who watch football but don't stay up after 8. Having it on that Sunday would be perfect, they should throw in a second bye week, expand the rosters, change the injury rules and go for it.

I have hosted a Super Bowl party every year for 20 years and I can tell you from personal experience that couples who come to my party have had plenty of spouses take turns missing the party year after year to put kids to bed early because they had school in the morning and some of the wives who missed the party didn’t watch the game. I am sure that happens all over the country and women watch the Super Bowl commercials more than men.

The NFL is not going to arrange the biggest annual sporting event on the planet around the schedules of children so young they can't stay up past 9:00. Nor should they.

And like most east coasters, you seem not to realize other time zones exist. 6:30 in the east, 3:30 out west is the ideal starting time.

But during Wild Card and Division round weekends, the Saturday night game draws higher ratings than the Sunday games most years.
I'll take completely made up facts for $800, Alex.

Divisional Round:
Fox's Sunday primetime broadcast of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' win over the New Orleans Saints drew the biggest audience of the weekend, with 35.46 million viewers. The earlier game Sunday (Kansas City Chiefs-Cleveland Browns) on CBS delivered 34.33 million viewers. The two Saturday games brought in 26.5 million viewers for Fox in the afternoon and 26.24 million for NBC in primetime.

Wild Card Round:
The biggest audience of the weekend tuned in to CBS and Nickelodeon late Sunday afternoon. NBC's Sunday night game and ABC and ESPN's Sunday afternoon simulcast — a "mega-cast" that also included alternate feeds on ESPN2 and Freeform — tied for the second-largest audience, each drawing 24.78 million viewers. NBC's Saturday primetime contest drew 21.37 million; and CBS' early afternoon Saturday game averaged 20.09 million. By comparison, the four games a year ago averaged between 26 million and 35 million viewers.
