We didn’t do anything special yesterday. No need to show all of our cards on defense when you’re playing Zach Wilson. Most of our coverages were Cover-3 and Cover-2. There were times where we didn’t even disguise. Just dropped into the coverage shown pre-snap. Wilson would check it down against Cover-2 for either a loss or short gain, and didn’t look for anything deep against Cover-1/Cover-3.

The Pharaoh Brown TD is a very nice design that exploits either a flaw or a bad call. Motion Gesecki wide left to force what looks like a single safety to commit to that side. The fact that Brown just launches into a go route without even blocking or chipping tells you that this play was solely drawn up with him in mind. Going from this point on, teams will be forced to account for him as a dual threat.

A little bit of history on him - he slimmed down because blocking tight-ends "don't get paid."

So Mac is zero for whatever in the last two games on deep shots. But those still have some value - means the defense can't just crowd the short/intermediate stuff.

But in this game his shots were weird choices on critical third-and-shorts. Safe back-shoulder throws, but where the receiver and he were not on the same page. Smith-Schuster missed a lot of practice, is in a new system, and it is showing. Quickest upgrade to our overall offense now that the OL is in decent shape is to get Smith-Schuster playing decently again.

Not just Schuster, but would like to see Douglas and Parker be on the same page as Mac. Whatever needs to be done. Hopefully the offensive-line coming together helps facilitate that development in game. TE's seem to be pretty informed of their assignments. WR still has some head scratching moments.

You can clearly see some very good attributes- doesn't panic, doesn't stumble, and his transitions are all smooth. These attributes are what Revis and Gilmore had.
The smoothness is what gets me. Just seems that receivers make some cuts that would shake almost anyone else and he just glides in lockstep.

Anyone got how many times they used a fullback, and how many times it was Brown? Seems a bit of a nice tool in the box with his versatility blocking and catching. Surprising athleticism for a guy considered a jag.

Henry and Parker are what they are. Douglas is learning and a bit lost. It would be good to see Boutte back. He was running good routes for a rookie.

N

He took a lot of crap for the one rep where he didn’t block anyone. Other than that, he was a brick wall. Maybe the money is doing some good, after all.

Agreed. But it is a funny rep. Like when no-one high fived Brady.

Boutte has always ran good routes, back to his time at LSU. As a pro, he just needs to work on his balance, and getting both feet in. I think Douglas needs to learn on the fly. His routes are not as crisp as they should be, so you shouldn’t see hard-breaking cuts for a little bit, but he’s got too much speed to be sitting on the sideline. A legitimate perimeter threat would completely open this offense up and give it the gear it needs.
