10m + incentives.

"$10 mil buys a lot of Marlboros!"

Somehow Kapernick can't get a job. Cutler was awful last year but he gets $10 million

Gase has worked with Cutler in the past with some success.

Basic math and history easily explains it for the Miami situation.

  • According to reports, Cutler's getting $10m to start in Miami.
  • According to reports, Kaepernick was looking for $9m just to be a backup in Seattle.
  • Cutler had one of his better seasons, under Gase, in 2015 (Better QB rating than anything from Kaepernick's post 2012 career) a/k/a the season before last.
  • Kaepernick proudly showed off a Fidel Castro shirt, which would infuriate more than 1/3 of the Miami fan base, at a minimum. That's on top of the percentage who'd be infuriated about the pig socks and the anthem antics.

Looks like Tannehill is heading for surgery. I can't see the Dolphins paying Cutler $10 million if they think there is a possibility of Tannehill being back in say October.

Tannehill should have gotten the surgery right after the season. Might have been ready to play the first game or two or at worst started the season on PUP and played after six games. Now it looks like he is going to miss the entire season to get s surgery he should have gotten eight months ago.

Cutler did have his best season under Gase, but let's not turn it into a season it wasn't. He still only threw for 3,659 yards(19th in the league), 21 TDs (17th), and 11 INTs (15th most) with a 64.4% completion percentage (14th) and a 92.3 QB rating (16th) in 15 games.

Tannehill's also going to be a 30 year old QB coming in to play a likely post-ACL down year, with about a $17.5m salary and just about a $4.6m cap hit if he gets cut. It shouldn't shock anyone if he never plays for the Dolphins again.

Rather than smugly tear down this move, we should better look at it more closely. Cutler is as "talented" as any QB in the league, but over the years has been the epitome of the adage, "million dollar arm- 10 cent head". To me that makes him a dangerous opponent because, on any given Sunday can look like the best QB in the league, and the next give a game away with bad throws.

The dangerous part is that he COULD have one of his good games against the Pats. He has thrived at times in the Gase offense. Plus by the time he plays the Pats late in the season, he will be fully ready to play at his best. AND he will have a solid receiving corps and could have one of the better running games in the league.

I thought Miami would be good this season. Their talent is as good as anyone's, and I think Gase is a HC who can bring a team together to win. Their 10 win season after a 1-4 start was a very impressive coaching achievement. Besides, I'm not sure replacing Tannyhill with Cutler is much of a drop off if any at all.

BTW- what's the talk about Culter being a locker room cancer. From what I read, most guys he played with liked him?

That was a gamble on his part but I understand it somewhat. He was showing signs of improving under Gase and may not have wanted to miss any of the TC's and preseason. He may have feared losing his starting job while rehabbing.

In addition, two teammates, also speaking anonymously, say they’d rather not keep playing with Cutler.

The reasons for all the animosity toward Cutler seem to stem from his personality, as those who have worked with him say he lacks leadership qualities and is not a positive presence in the Bears’ locker room. There’s also talk that he didn’t run the offense the way the coaches wanted, and that in hindsight some people within the organization think Cutler should have lost his starting job to Josh McCown in 2013.

A whole lot of Jay Cutler’s ex-coaches are ripping him, anonymously

Nice $10M hit to their cap. Sucks to lose $10M just like that.
