I lived in Florida for close to a decade, and the summers seemed to get hotter and hotter, and the "winter" seemed to go from 6 weeks to a few days sprinkled in between the heat. We always knew we weren't going to settle down there, but my wife had a hard time when we started to talk timelines for leaving. Hurricane Irma in 2017 was really the final straw. We had a destination wedding planned where we were leaving less than a week after the storm was supposed to hit St. Pete and had to evacuate to Byron, Georgia, with some clothes, her wedding dress, and our dog and hope our house didn't get destroyed. Luckily, it all worked out, but seeing how ill-prepared the state was for that storm and just how stupid so many people were being when a Category 5 hurricane was bearing down on them, that was finally it for her. About 6 months after we got married, we headed back to New England, and she has really ended up liking it here.
