Watching Taylor Henicke look like a franchise QB hurts the most.
Who evaluated this kid before he was cut?
I understand he could of gotten better stronger more determined but the had has moxie. You can’t coach that.
We should offer the kid a ncid
Contract and compete with Washington.
Go in with Stidham Heinicke or Mariota and a first round rookie.
we need to get this right.

I guess you jumped off the Brandon Allen bandwagon after the same predictable amount of time as it took him to turn back into a pumpkin.

Which is exactly what will happen with Heinicke next year.

Yeah like I said we need to see more. Ask Bills fans about Rob Johnson... he was a one game wonder too and they gave him a huge contact from one game.

Case Keenum consistently played "well" for over a season to lead the Vikings to the NFC Championship game and has been forgotten by 95% of the NFL fanbase by now. The only thing Heinicke accomplished yesterday is to make sure he will have at least another 5-6 years of career backup money flowing his way.

You have to show that high level consistency year after year before anyone is allowed to call you a franchise QB.

LOL. Yeah, let's go back and find all the threads from three years ago with Pats fans screaming at the sky about his being cut after two weeks on the practice squad, and all the 2015 draft threads touting his future greatness.

No Pats fans (or Vikings, Texans or Panthers fans) ever remember him, or his being with their respective teams. Good for him to have taken advantage of his opportunity, but the Heinicke hindsight angst is a bit over the top.

We didn’t get to see him in practices we didn’t get to see what the coaches saw.
My point is it’s another miscalculation by the front office. The way the kid played last night we would of been in the playoff hunt and a much more competitive team.
It’s just frustrating.
I don’t care if we don’t win the super bowl every year but I want us to he competitive every season and the offense not to be a laughingstock which it was. Can you count how many times Patriots and no weapons of lack of weapons was mentioned under the same breath?

It’s just another point that we were very lazy evaluating the QB position I agree with posters who said BB saw this year as a non playoff team.
However 5 minutes of Allen or Heicke or my wife’s highschool friend Chad Henne, or Andy Dalton would of been better options.
I just want to see us be competitive and have capable QB play.
What Patriots fan doesn’t want that.
On a side note Brady seems to be a much better fit in Arians and Leftwich’s offense.
And I know some posters been pining for Cameron Brate over the years he looked excellent.
He was the difference in them winning and losing the Game.

Man, you are a heat seeking missile for misery.
It wasn't a miscalculation by the front office. Or anyone. He didn't compete enough on any of the many NFL teams he's been on to earn even a sniff at a starting role, much less grab one.
"A laughingstock"?! Who is laughing? At whom? You are imagining a humiliation that just isn't there.

You don’t think people laughed at our passing game this year?
Honestly I’ve heard so many pundits and announcers talk about how starved for talent this team was.
If you are not trying to improve or evolve you become stale and eventually any success or fortune alludes you.
I’m at the top in sales with a new company I just joined 3 months ago and day to day I still feel like I could of done something different or gotten more.
That’s how I’m wired and I believe any successful business should be.
Especially one as competitive as the NFL.
I’ll throw up in my mouth if we March out half of the same offensive skill players next season.
As should every Pats fan.

What does that even mean ? Do you think teams actually sit down for days with practice squad players they get in and evaluate them in the middle of a season when every week is a race against time to get the gameplan in ?

The time for evaluations is in the offseason (OTAs, mini camp et al) and preseason. When the train leaves the station at the start of the regular season there is no more time to evaluate this or that anymore. You get a couple of things on your plate and if you absolutely ace them you might get more to do next week, if you don't impress you might be gone.

I agree that the time to make a lasting impression on that situation is incredibly limited.
But Moxie, arm strength, toughness, understanding of the game should be pretty evident.

Remember.....Bill passed on potentially better draft picks from other Jimmy G suitors in 2017 ........so he could reunite with Brian "0-11 but knows the playbook" Hoyer.

What is your definition of a franchise QB?

What is your definition of a franchise QB?
Someone who is heads and tails better than any other QB on his current team and could start on any of the other 31 Franchises and still be competitive to win.
I guess to sum it up a QB who you can count on to win games on his own.

Yes I remember all to well.
However by all reports he was the main reason for the dismantling of the Mcvay lead Rams.

I thought he played very well but he had an Int dropped on an overthrow (hit the defender right in the gut) and he nearly had another one on an ill advised throw in the end zone. He seemed to have great pocket awareness but majority of his completions were to wide open WRs so I am not sure what to make of that. He did make a couple great throws like the TD on the sideline and his running was critical but I think the level of praise has more to do with extremely low expectations than showing that he is someone's QB of the future.
