The problem is (1) playing time and (2) contract extension. He likely wants more of both than the Pats can give him.

I'd trade him if the Pats can get real value in return to meet another need. Otherwise, someone else can overpay him in 2027 and we might get a comp pick.

I think Kayshon Boutte can post Romeo Doubs stats or better if fully healthy.

I agree if there's a draft pick involved that's as good as it gets for a guy on the last year of his contract.

I'm just thinking that Boutte isn't chopped meat either - he's had some OK production and had a 17 yard average last year and there could be a defensive player in a similar situation that might give us some needed depth.

I am not sure if we have leverage. However, if the Pats are offering Gonzo a fair contract, he is taking a risk by not signing an extension. He could tear an ACL and never be the same player. I wouldn't even consider paying him top defensive player in the league money.
