PATRIOTS NEWS 2026 Patriots OTAs - Second Open Media Day (6/2)

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
He had the most productive year of his career last year, but he just turned 31 not sure he has another big deal coming. If his family likes the area maybe he takes team friendly deals to end his career here.
He could extend his career moving into a TE2 role where he is more of a pure receiver and not asked to block as often. Could also use him as a big slot receiver or split him wide on occasion, kind of like a Kelce type role. Good red zone weapon. He probably has a few more productive years in him after 2026 in that capacity.

He’s been in NE for 6 years now so he definitely has roots. He seems to really like Drake, they’re always running around together.

In case people don't remember regarding Gabe Jacas absence, Tre'veon Henderson was also slow to report last year.

First round picks contracts are guaranteed, so the money is already banked. Guaranteed money for second round picks keeps extending deeper into the round, so it sets up for second rounders to have more contentious contract negotiations. If the second round guy drafted in front of you is fully guaranteed, then why shouldn't I be.

He'll be there eventually.
Apparently he's also still rehabbing an injury.

IIRC, he has a decently high salary this year but it’s not guaranteed. He has incentive to come to the table.
Are you suggesting that the team threaten to cut or trade him THIS year?

That's not happening. Henry has all the leverage for now.

Doesn't have to be a threat, it is just part of business. Onwenu was in a somewhat similar category. There is not a real replacement for him on the roster but he still had incentive to get some guaranteed money for security.

I disagree

If I were Henry, I would fine with being cut. Henry will get his new contract elsewhere. Onwenu had an impossible $17.5M contract.

However, it is reasonable for the team to consider an extension now.

Need to get the starting corners out there to get a sense for how the wrs are doing

Or at least get CBs actually worthy of an NFL roster spot out there...

If Any of the top 3 become hors de combat for a length of time, then we are ****ed.

With the team not getting a look at Julian Hill all year, I wonder if that leads to an extension for Hunter Henry sooner rather than later.

What it should lead to is the beginning of the search for another TE...

Who cares about hang time if it only goes 30 yards downfield. He was one of the most underrated poor performs of the year, and mostly in the big moments in the playoffs. I can't believe the team isn't addressing this. He was very disappointing a lot of the time.

Absolutely. Dude sucks. Another draft pick wasted on yet another suck-ass special olympics teams player. I was really hoping that the Australian dude would be signed last month.

H Henry is overrated here he can't Block for $h!t...I hate those kind of TE's. Eli Raridon please make him our #2 TE by mid season. A Blocking TE is going to do wonders for this Offense. CJ Dippre I hope you ain't just Big for nothing.

We need another vet TE.
